I have a set of them and no problems at all. I keep them clean and waxed and that has to help. Plus, I don't drive the car when there is salt, etc on the roads.
I have painted wheels on a Y2K. The paint has never peeled, but when I bought the car the wheels were already a bit chewed on some of the edges from whoever mounted the tires. I do also have some rock chips that I need to touch up. But generally I would say that the painted wheels hold up better than both the factory polished and the chromed after market wheels. (We have an 01 with polished, and I have an 'extra' set of chromes for my Y2k, so I speak from experience with all three types of wheels.)
Are you the origianal owner? If not, are the real GM or repos?
If you're talking to me, no, I am not the original owner. I bought my 2000 in 2002 with 10K miles and they are the later version of the Y2Ks, the ones from Speedline. I've since upgraded to iForged Aeros and have the Y2Ks sitting in the garage.
My only painted wheel that shows any damaged was the one that I had a flat repaired on. A couple chips around were the weight was removed. Also one of the spokes looks like the tech created a 3/8-inch dia. dull spot on it some how. I have never had a tire dismounted and remounted and the wheel did not have some damage. The wheels included steel, polish aluminum, chrome and painted. If you have weights mounted on the outside the minimal damage will be where the weight was removed.
