Default chrome wipers

I've been searching for the thread that a yellow vet showed his chrome wipers and where the black plastic was painted yellow? He described how to take that plastic piece off but I need to ask a question. Are you out there tonite? Doug

Haven't had a chance to look at my car but is that all one piece from where the wipers lay down to where you would put the chrome cover over the cowl? He said there was five pop up rivets or something that comes off but I think there is a small rubber molding along the windshield; what happens to that? Am I making any sense? Tha nks, Doug I was also curious about the price of chrome wipers.

The 5 black plastic pop rivits are the ones you take out and replace with the 5 bolts and nuts when you install the chrome cowl piece you were talking about. The rubber molding you are talking about comes off once you get the cowl off. I turned the wipers on and when they reached their highest point turned the key off so they would stop there. I then placed a piece of tape next to the wiper blade as a ref point for reinstall of the chrome wipers. After you get the wipers off and those 5 fasteners out the cowl slides down towards the engine bay and off. When you put it back on you will see there are a few tabs that slide under the bottom of the windshield to hold it tight at that piece of rubber you were talking about, the 5 fasteners hold the front down. I got the wipers from forum member cvetgo, they were $400. including the wipers, blades, and shipping. Well worth the price. The quality is great. Let me know if you need any more help. If you do the wipers the painted cowl is a must.

So it seems pretty easy to remove? Even if I don't get the wipers, the painted plastic would look good. I wouldn't do the chrome wipers with the black plastic. How are the wipers holding up? Have you used them much because I seem to get caught in rain coming back from car shows, just bad luck I guess.I thought the other thread said that he had to glue the grill back on, what does that mean? Thanks for your help and I'll try to get a hold of cvetgo. Anyone else sell the wipers? Doug

Brian explained the cowl removal well. It's one piece and very simple to remove, getting the wipers off can be the toughest part. You'll also have to disconnect the washer hoses as you pull the cowl off, again, very easy and self-explanatory.

The rubber edge against the windshield comes out with the cowl. It's just a seal that lays up to the windshield. You'll want to either mask or remove it for painting.
The other item I mentioned was the screen, which is glued to the backside of the cowl over the vent slots. You'll have to carefully pry the screen off the cowl - trying to keep it intact and it's bent shape, and once the cowl is painted, hot glue or epoxy it back in place.

Really, an easy job, you'll have no trouble figuring it out.

Here's a closeup shot of the rubber edging.

It is fitted over the edge of the plastic cowl, and held on the backside with some special tape. Instead of totally removing it, I just pried the rubber off the edge, and folded it over to the backside of the cowl, and masked it off. Once the cowl was painted, I unmasked it, and slid it back in place along the cowl edge.

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Your car is awesome. Any problem with the chrome on the wipers? Doug
