Run the vin at a dealer and check the warranty work that has been done.
Check the tires for wear...expensive to replace...

Put it on a lift and look for leaks, engine, tranny, and differential.

Make sure it shifts smooth thru all gears and different RPM's. The 02's had aluminum shift forks that are prone to bending, causing rough or shifts to lock.

Check all rims for rash from curbs...

See if you can find maintenance schedule, oil changes, filters, etc...

Look for any paint work or unusual gaps in panel fitment, accident damage.

Make sure the tire inflator kit is in the trunk.

Good Luck and hope you find a nice new Z...

Jack

Be sure and check fluid levels and the air cleaner and whatnot. It will give you a good idea of how the person who currently owns it takes care of it.

good luck

There is copiious amounts of info at:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...7&forum_id=103

Battery acid leaking on wiring harness, etc.

This is by no means the only thread that addresses a purchase. There are alot of very knowledgeable people on this site and if you read some of the complaints (notchy shifting of Z) you will be better prepared to know what to look for when you test drive the car.

I was offered a 2,300 miles 04Z for less money than a 5,000 mile 04Z. Opted for the 5,000 mile car as it was apparent that the 2,300 mile car had no tires left on the rear. The 5,000 mile car was owned by a Corvette Club member and while it was not babied, it was well cared for.

Ask the owner for all the documentation, get Owner's Manual and for 2002 models DVD or VHS tape (although this is can be downloaded from the media section of the Z06.com site.

When you begin looking at the car, ask the owner if he has any accessories that are included in the sale...cover, stock parts if mods have been done.

I assume you are going to Carfax or Experion this car to ensure that it is not a salvage title.

I believe the settings are aggresive from the factory, so you will experience somewhat abnormal tire wear. I think you can get the settings set so the wear will be normal, but I believe you'll be giving up handling.

A lot of information on this site, so I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in.
