You will be pleased with any year C5 you get, that much I can guarantee. I have a 1997 that has been trouble free. Here is a website with pretty good detail with year by year model changes for you to check out.

I loved my C4's. However, the improvements relegated and implemented into the C5 far surpass those present in the C4. Get the C5, and, you will appreciate the noted improvements which are many. Despite this fact, I still love those C4's, especially the clam shell hood, and, the ease of access to the entire engine bay and suspension, which the C5, and, especially the C6, lack. If you can afford it, get an '02 or newer - lots of things were standard where they were options in earlier models. Plus, if you want to go with something like a Z06, the HP went to 405 in '02.
