Default What do these C5 mods require

So want to do a few mods to my 04 commemorative coupe F55 ........

these are the same mods i did to my 1991 C4 coupe, that never gave me a lick of trouble in 15 years and 110k miles....... I swear its because of the temp.... never had to even change a hose.... (brakes and normal stuff as usual)

thermostat temp to 170 degrees.......
fans on at 170
remove cats
add fat sway bars

what do i need to do to acomplish this?

thanx
Rick

Just buy yourself a 160 degree thermostat ~$60-$70

You'll need to have your PCM tuned to take full advantage of the thermostat and turn the fans on. That could be anywhere from free to as much as $400. But for $400 you'd get a whole lot more beneficial stuff changed in the PCM.

Cats. You can get an off-road X-pipe and O2 simulators. Or have the rear O2's deleted in that tuning i mentioned above. (althouth if you want no cats i recomend doing a full exhaust while you're at it.)

Swaybars. Grab a set from a Z06 and slap them on. Great stuff from what i hear.

Enjoy

60 bucks for tstat? What a rip, you can get those for 20 bucks.

Intake would be a good one to do also if you haven't done so already

Please tell me that was supposed to be an attempt at humor.

Sure for an LT-1, Hypertech 160 cost me $19 for my 97 Camaro. They are $60 for an LS1. Find me LS1 Hypertech 160's for $20 and i'll buy a box full.

And if you actually read his thread you'll see he's got an 04. Already has LS6 intake on it. Only real upgrade from there is a $700 F.A.S.T.

but infront of the LS6 intake manifold, a nice air intake such as a Blackwing, Stinger, Vararam or any of the dozen or so other kits would be a nice addition.

I agree the Z06 swaybars would be a good addition. Reasonably priced too and an easy mod to do. If you decide to take off the cats, just be sure you will not have any problems come time for any inspection on the car. If they check, you will not pass with them off the car.

I installed the Z06 swaybars and really like the way the car handles over the stock ride and I have the F45 setup so go for the sways

thanks guys.....so a couple of questions......

the therm change only requires fan temp turn on changes to accomplish? my 91 and 86 would not come out of open loop unless i plugged in a chip that allowed for that temp without leaning the injection to bring up the temp,,,,, is this not the case anymore?

I will not have a cat removal issue here ,,,,, my 91 is removed and runs fine with the hypertech streetmaster.... does this tuning for the 2004 take the lowerd back pressure and higher hydrocarbon content into consideration or is it a must to "fool" the computer with the O2 simulator?

are there other mods that help performance such as the mentioned air intake ? like map sensor changes...... etc...???

thanks you guys,,,,, i havent had much time to research this car since i bought it.....

Rick

ps,,,, is there a difference between the 2003 and 2004 intake? what are the differences?

Shane - the '04 thermostats are different from earlier models - they are separate from the housing. A lower temp thermo should be way less than $60 for the '04. Corvette Central has the 160 for $21.95.
