What is an oil catch can ? What does it do and what is it for ? I have an 2003 vert ? Do I need one ? If I do need one where do I buy it and what does it cost ?
Which one do you recommend ? I see Greedy knock offs for $35 on e-bay motors. Also some catch cans for under $12 on e-bay. I want to mount it on the cyclinder head so are the square ones too big for that? the colored round ones look easier to mount because they seem smaller. Please help with some recomendations.
I would get one off of ebay. I got mine for about $40. It looks like the one in the link below (except in red of course). It was no problem mounting to the head, I just bent the brack a little to give me more room. There is already a emply bolt hole in the head you can attach the brack to.
Oh, I almost forgot. If you get one off ebay you should get some steel wool to put inside the can. This will help collect the oil from the air when passing through the can.
It came with both sized fittings. I'll have to look to see which ones I actually used. The only other thing you will want to buy is a better hose. The only that is provided is flimsy. You can buy better stuff at an auto store or home depot for $5 or less.
Here is an old thread with some pictures of one installed. The link starts at page three but the entire thing has some good info.

How does yours work? Does it leak at all? Do the screws that mount to the can for the bracket go alll the way through, thus causing a leak Would you buy the same one again

Take a look at the link I posted above. It has a picture of how it's hooked up. It's not my car but I have the same can and mounted it in the same place. The screws for the bracket to not go all the way through so you don't have to worry about it leaking. The only think that leaked at first is after I put the steel wool in mine I didn't use teflon tape when screwing the bottom back on. Once I saw the leak I used teflon tape and haven't had a leak.
Also in the link I posted above, it will tell you the bolt size you need for attaching it to the head.

Can something else be used other than steel wool inside of the catch can? Maybe like a piece of sponge (similar to the ones used to wash cars) and cut it to fit perfectly into the catch can. Just curious.
Look up the Aimspot 2000 e-bay link on e-bay. This particular oil catch can reservoir sells for just under $14.00 shipped, and, serves the same purpose. Interestingly, with a little research, you will find that other vendors carry this same product and sell it for more. The choice is yours.
having looked into this (on line) it seems the air/oil seperator for air tools makes the most sense. It does the same thing as the other catch cans but you can see when the oil level gets high. the other cans you have to open them up to check the level.
I have not bought one yet and I am interested in others opinions.

The oil will probably eventually eat it up, not to mention too restrictive. I would recommend coarse stainless steel wool.

Now lets discuss inside the can. what I am seeing is an interior with ribs and maybe a vertical deflector. the oil comes in and hits the deflector, the oil falls to the bottom of the can and the ribs prevent the oil from joining the air stream again. Am I correct in what I have read?

wouldn't the steel wool be just as effective?
Both would be better. This is what AMW cans have and what is not seen in the picture (on another post) of the inside of the round red catch can.
