Don't know about this one but I got the Magellan Gold and the streets and desinations software. Real nice. I down load different sections of the country when travelling. It also holds a 500mb sd card or downloading the maps. I bought the OEM window mount and dual cord that connecs it to the laptop and car power outlet. It will show a moving map on the larger laptop. Got me out of jams numerous times in Atlanta trafic and on a country trip through farm lands of Kansas.
I'm pretty familiar with the Garmin units, but haven't dealt with the newest units. Been out of it for a bit. But, this is an older unit with more limited capabilites. It does not have the WAAS correction (which makes it even more accurate). The internal memory is small (8MB) if you plan to do street mapping, which eats memory. This unit will also NOT give you a turn-by-turn navigation. (turn left, turn right, etc.).. The two things I really dislike about the ETrex series are the little black "joystick" control on the front for accessing the menus and the really small screen. It doesn't have and up-down-left-right arrow pad. The joystick is a pain to use, and is very cumbersome.
If you are looking at a cheaper unit, check out the Garmin GPSMap 76. It has the same 8MB memory capability, and no turn-by-turn navigation. BUT, the screen is much larger, has the arrow pad, it's easier to use and has the WAAS correction. They also make an S version with 24MB memory. The newer color versions have 115MB of internal memory and USB interface, but are much more $$$.
There are quite a few units out there. Garmin makes EXCELLENT units and I would really stick to them if you plan on purchasing one. They also have an excellent warranty.
I purchased this same unit about a year ago. Reason I did this one it comes with the cable to connect to a laptop. I use Microsoft Streets and Trips and it works really good with it. I just purchased the 2006 version of MS streets and Trips and it now has voice commands built into it.
Have used it on a couple trips before I upgraded to the 2006 version of MS and had no issues. With it connected to the laptop it gives you speed, directions, altitude.
Hey
Thanks to all who replied. I use Microsoft mappoint North America so I guess I should have mentioned that. Also I think I want the turn by turn directions. The hunt continues
Thanks Agian

I just got a Garmin street pilot i3 it works great the only draw down is the sandisk card is 128mb so it only holds a few states. I plan on getting a larger disk so I can store the whole U.S. Its a great unit for the price and it is easy to operate.
