Default Horn problems

I have a 2000 Coupe with a horn problem. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It also works each time I lock the car.

Had the same issue. For me it was the relay located in the fuse box by the battery. Pull the cover off and see which one it is by the diagram. You can pick up a new relay at parts store for $18. If you have fog lamps you can tell for sure by switching the two relays. Good luck

I hope that wps5 is correct and it is just the relay. If it is the horn switch you are looking at replacing the entire airbag assembly. The horn is listed as Non-servicealbe on my parts list. The GM part is 10415723 and the horn switch appears to be integrated into the airbag module.

I hope its not in the airbag. What are these "engineers" thinking about when they design these machines? $$$$$$$$$$ I'll try swapping the relays first. Thanks guys.

I have an issue with my horn also. When I press the horn button the first 3 or 4 times, it will not work. After that it works perfectly. I think I have dirty contacts on the horn switch. Looks to complicated and expensive to fix, so I am just going to live with it.

I had a problem with my headlight/turn signal/blinker lever on the side of the steering column about 2 months ago. After I took apart the dash and steering column covers, I was able to remove the lever. While I was removing it, I noticed that there was a copper pin about an inch long protruding (only protruded from the lever assembly about 1/4 inch, the rest was buried in the lever assembly) from the lever assembly. I just happened to bump the copper pin on part of the metal on the back of the steering wheel and noticed that anytime it hit metal, the horn sounded. I had to wait a few days for a new assembly lever so I played around a bit and noticed that with the lever assembly removed, the horn wouldnt work from the steering wheel however, the "alarm" and lock noise both still worked. You may want to pull apart the plastic surrounding the steering column and check that copper pin (unfortunately, you have to pull apart the center console, radio surround, and dash parts to get to the center console plastic.) Obviosuly, this copper pin contacts something metal when you push the front of the steering wheel. Im not sure how it all works but you may want to look into it.

If you find that this lever assembly is broken, you can get them for about 120$ from fred beans. If you have a set of manuals, it tells you that you have to remove the steering wheel to remove the lever because the wheel blocks one of the screws you have to remove. This is BS, just rotate the wheel 90 degrees to the left so that the large whole you look through to see the gauges is in line with the screw.

Of course this is all more work then just checking the relay (I would defintely check the relay first as the other have said)
