I have an 01 Z with a patriot head and 224 228 cam, along with a set of headers (still have the cats) and a vararam intake. Anyone have similar modifications as this and have any trouble passing emissions. I know this may be dependent on the state and I live in Va if that helps. Thanks, Jeremy
Does VA do a visual inspection as part of the vehicle emissions certification? If not, your h/c combo should be capable of being tuned to pass a sniffer test.
I tried looking up the Virginia motor vehicle code, but could not find anything conclusive. Interestingly though, they have a specific prohibition against having a flame thrower on your car!
In my area they simply hook up the OBD-II scanner and check for codes so if the car is tuned correctly and the systems are ready you'll be fine. Not sure where they do an actualy sniffer.
you just get the obd test.as long as the readiness monitors are set and there are no codes you should be fine.having said that,5% of the obd test cars are prompted to take the tread mill test at the same time.on a 2001 you are allowed to have one monitor not set as long as it isn't the catalytic converter monitor.

Penna uses a sniffer...but I think it's still setup so that based on zip code will determine whether you even need emissions or not. That may have gone away, not sure, I've always had to.

Gasboy,
Exactly my problem this morning! Had the car tuned and the codes "taken care of". However, it now seems that the car will not pass the OBDII emissions inspection. QUITE a few monitors were not "ready", so it failed. Any idea on a remedy? I will contact ECS on tuesday and see what they can do for me, etc...They seem to be a great bunch, so hopefully they'll know what to do.
Is it as simple as not deleteing the codes, but setting them to "ok" and making them "static" so they can't change to "not ok" status? Or is just not gonna happen for me? :-\
I didn't mean to hijack this thread - I thought that this experience might help the original poster since we have the same state doing our emissions and i've had cam/tuning done.
