This is my first time on the forum so I hope I do this right. I just purchased a 99 C5 coupe in November and have managed to have an engine failure.Engine still runs but the lower end sounds like bad wrist pins or bearings. No help from purchasing dealer. The local chevy dealer recommended a new engine for 10k ouch!!!!
My son managed to locate a new complete LS1 through a friend in Ga. and I picked it up last thursday. Is there any info on removal and install or maybe a reputable source for this service in the Tampa Bay area.
I have been reading the forum for some time and the info has been so helpful. I will try to contribute when I have something of interest.
Happy New Year everyone.
Paid 18,900 for car and otherwise is in excellent cond. It has 85k on it.
I purchased Will Handzel's how to build LS1/LS6 book as it includes the removal process. Has anyone removed one of these without dropping the torque tube and rear suspension as shown in the book?
How about out of the top?
That stinks. You'll get some great advice here. I have never undertaken a reinstall, but my understanding is the motor drops from the bottom not the top. I guess anything would be possible, but I think you're going to be increasing the difficulty range significantly by pulling topside. Good luck and keep us posted.
PS: I'm a bit suprised although not shocked that you're not getting more assistance from the stealership. Sold "As Is" I'm sure, but with only 2 months since the purchase and only 85K miles....I would push a bit more.

The Torque Tube and Rear drive train takes bout 5 hours to remove, it's not too bad of a job.

I hate to hear this happen to anyone,it has happened to me too... But i will promise you this . After you get the new engine in. You,ll feel SOOOOOOOOOO much better.... Good luck on the install
Received the LS1 complete right down to the spark plugs for $3000.00 no miles it was hard to pass up. I will try the dealer manager later to see if they might help a little with some of the cost.
I still love this car and it is my first one.
Obstacles are those frightening things we see when we take our eyes off our goals.
I will try revextreme are they a repair/mod facility?
If you need someone to do the install, one of the best tuners in FLA is Norris Motorsports / Nexl Level Performance http://www.nlperformance.com/ The owner (Mike Norris) is top notch!
Also when you get the old motor out please post some pics of what is bad and if there is any sign of what caused it. For it to go out at 85K is not common.
I build motors but have not had the chance to play with the LS1's... yet.
