I am looking to get my windows tinted however I am concerned about the "dot matrix" area on the rear window. I've heard that it can be a problem but that it's possible to overcome it. However, when I expressed my concern to the owner of the tint shop I was going to go to, he claimed it was impossible to get the tint to adhere over the dots and said the only option was a black vinyl strip (on the outside of the window) covering that whole area. But I've seen pictures where this area was tinted successfully so I know it's possible. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations of a place I could go? I live in Northern Delaware but I'd be willing to travel (as long as it's not too terribly far) in order to get it done right.
Also, my car is a torch-red coupe and I was trying to decide how dark to actually tint the windows. Does anyone have pics of their torch-red with tint so I could see how it looks?
First and foremost the dot pattern is a b*tch for tint but it can be done. Torch Red looks great with a tint if I do say so myself. My windows have 35% on the sides (state legal in Massachusetts) and 30% on the rear. Hopefully, someone in your area will respond with some recommendations.
I do not recommend the vinyl strip route, and whatever you do, don't let any shop "sand the dots" it will just make a mess out of the window if they don't do it right.
I had 30% (legal limit in GA, I would like 20-25%) formulaONE tints put on my torch red coupe. They were able to go right over the dot matrix area, no problem. Plus, on the side windows they trim the film to the edge of the window so it looks like a factory tint. Guaranteed for life not to chip or peal. There is a dealer northern DE. Just go to www.formulaone.com

100% with Paul.
It should look like this when it's dry (about 4 days later, depending on weather)
First of all, thanks to all of you who responded and thanks for the pics. Your cars look great, I feel much more confident about getting the windows tinted after seeing how good your cars look.
And I want to especially thank g2103320 for his recommendation of FormulaONE. I had never even heard of FormulaONE and did not know there was a dealer near me but I just checked out their website and I am very excited about taking my car there. Sounds like they know what they're doing and you can't beat the warranty. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

As far as the "dots" go...You're not far from Jersey (Toms River). Advavced Solar Control did mine. 732-477-1000
He has taught at the shows how to make the tint paper stick to the ceramic dots.
