Default New Z06 vs NASCAR

Go to the National Corvette Museum site. The article about the new Z06 is the Pace Car for the Daytona 500. Nascar with restrictor plates only make 450 hp and run 190. The Z06 make 505 and can run 198. Sounds like to me they will have a hard time following the Pace Car. Also the paint looks great. Go read the article, very interesting.

Quote from a NASCAR info site... "The engine in today's NASCAR racecars produce upward of 750 horsepower, and they do it without turbochargers, superchargers or particularly exotic components."

The restrictor plates limit the engines to 450 HP...some hot cars!

The big long tracks like Daytona and Talladega (spelling) use restrictor plates.

As usual, this (Nascar) should be a great event to see, and, most especially for the unveiling of the new C6 pace car for this year. In fact, I hear that the paint scheme for the new pace car will be nothing short of outrageous. Looking forward to the television coverage.

We are comparing apples to oranges. Once all the required saftey gear is added to the Z (I'm guessing about 300 pounds) I'd say a bone stock Z could last 2 maybe 3 laps before over heating or blowing up. Plus I doubt it could go into the turns WOT without scrubbing off 30 to 50 MPH, coming out of the first turn the Z would be so far behind it would be all over.

I've always heard Nascar cars had 750 horses.

Maybe this will be the first year that the pace car will be able to put a lap on the whole field! I can just imagine the guy in the 43rd car seeing the pace car lights behind him.

Even with 300# added the Z would still be lighter than the 3500# Stock Car (there's an oxymoron). Why would the Z overheat in 5 miles? Plus, it has a bigger engine 427 compared to 355 c.i. and more horses. You, obviously, haven't been to many Sports Car Races.

I'd say you are wrong. If GM was to make a $70K car that will only go 5 to 10 miles (that's about 2 to 3 laps) before over heating, they would be out of business, and or in court for faulty advertising. The Z06 with the 427 is not just designed as a garage queen. It is made to run, and it will run.

Now will a stock Z06 beat a nascar race car probably not due to the tires and setup of the suspension, frame, etc. But that bad boy 427 will run with them.

It won't run 198 with that light bar on it...guaranteed.

I doubt that a new, stock Corvette (or any stock Corvette, for that matter) could go 5 to 10 miles at wide open throttle without suffering some serious issues.

put a nascar driver in a Z06, let their team tweak the suspension for a week and all the Nascar cars would go bye bye and any of the oval tracks.
