Default Learned Something About PIAA Headlight

Just thought I'd clear up a misconception that some of us had with the PIAA Xtreme White Plus bulbs.

All the pictures on the 'net that I've seen in regards to this PIAA model show a blue tip, which has sparked some controversy in some threads on lighting.

I ordered (4) high beam 9005 bulbs (going to do the high-beam-bulbs-in-the-low-beam-slots mod) and, lo and behold, these bulbs do NOT have a blue tip at all. The bulb itself has a VERY slight blue tint, but nowhere near the blue tip shown in the pics. I'd say the bulb has maybe a 5% blue tint, which is hardly enough to lower light intensity even the slightest bit. It appears that this slight, slight tint is all that is needed to increase the color temperature of the bulb to make the light more white than yellow.

Don't know about the 9006s, but this is what I see in the 9005s. Hope this bit of info helps some of you who are looking for better bulbs.

well the chevy dealer we purchased our last order of 40 chevy impalas installed piaa bulbs in our cars, they definitely have a blue tip on them, u can see it as a big blue dot w/the lights off but they make all the difference in the world. we are assuming it was a dealer thing because the stock sylvania ones are in the glove box in the piaa box and none of the other agencies running impala police package cars have them....but yes, piaa makes several different bulbs, even in the same size, and ours as well as the ones i had in my previous car had a bright blue tip on the end...

Maybe what you're seeing is the lows (9600s), because the 9005s (highs) definitely do not have the blue tip, at least not on the Xtreme White Plus bulbs. I wouldn't think the PIAA Star Whites would have more blue on them, because those are more yellow in Kelvin temps.

I believe the 9006s have a blue cap on them. I know the Sylvania OEMs and Silverstars do.
