Default 1997-2000 C5's step inside

What do your cars dyno and what do they run in the 1/4 stock (indicate trans and gears). The reason I am asking is that over in C4 General there is a L98 vs LT1 thread. It later twisted into a LT1 vs LS1 discussion when someone (a mod) said, and I quote, "LT1 Y-body > 97-00 LS1 Y-body", implying that LT1 C4's are faster and better performers than early C5's. When I called him on it someone else jumped in and said that a large portion of 97-00 LS1 are dogs and have significant problems delivering power and many, in fact, have less power than LT1s. I have never heard of this before. Anyway, I called and would like to know your #'s.

I think that my setup matched with that of the C4 with the same setup would not be able to beat me.

I am running a VORTEK Bottom Feeder Cold Air Intake, LS6 intake, shorty headers, with high flow cats, BORLA XR-1 racing system, and a few other things and run a solid 12.7 at a 109mph in the 1/4. Sure it isn't the best time, but this is on street tires. I have ran against a C4 with the LT4 setup and LTs and beat him by a .5 second in the 1/4. That is, the LT4 intake, not the cam.

Okay, I am probably opening a can of worms here, but I really think that the LS1 is a better motor...GM did name it the best motor they have ever designed.

Most LS1s to about 305-310 RWHP stock, the ZO6s do 355ish (mine did 357).

C4s are great cars, but faster than an LS1, not on average. Maybe an LT4 M6 can whip an early LS1 A4 with the 2.73 axle ratio, but that would be about it.

I owned an Fbody LT1 A4 and it was a dog until I put all the bolt ons and changed the gears to 4.10 and then this car woke up, however it could barley beat my stock LS1 that has 3.42 gears MN6 and dynoed 317 hp and 323 tq, oh I had Corsa and K&N as the only upgrades. My best quarter time was 13.09 dont remember the speed. So if you get either an Fbody or Vette with the 2.73 A4 it will be slugish like my LT1 was

Dont have that problem no more run a blower for sick hp levels

When the 97s first came out there were a fair number of C4 LT4 guys claiming they could beat any C5 since their engines actually put out more than 330 horse while the C5s original 345 horse engine put less than rated HP. After about a year when some of the cars actually started being raced on a regular basis that whole series of comments seemed to disappear.

My 6-speed dynoed at right around 320 rwhp. I won't tell you what my times were the first time I ran at the track, but my 25 year old son claims I have a 13 second car with a 15 second driver. I haven't been to the track since I've done all my mods, but I'll probably let him drive it when I do go.

The LT1 had loads of low end torque.

Stock for stock the LS1 is 1/2 sec quicker.

I've got you beat! My first run on run flats and with traction control engaged was a 15.397 @101.66 mph. My 60' time was 3.286. Now that's truly pathetic! My best time that day was a 14.129 @ 104.21 mph. I know . . . Don't quit my day job.

I owned a 95 6spd and now a 2000 coupe 6spd. and there is no comparison imo. I love C4s' but I can honestly say, this is the best car I have ever owned..

I spent some time in the C4 forum about a year ago. Looking at threads and replying. The is a lot of BS going on between these guys comparing the C4 and C5 performance. So much that these folks believe their own BS. I stay out of those forums now. The bottom line is the C4 is a little over 100 lbs more in weight and 50 hp less hp. Plus they had somethnig like a 2.56 gear ratio. Go figure it out yourself
