My 98' Vette has just over 90k miles on it and I have been noticing that it has been ideling kinda ruff I figured now would be a good time for a tune up. Im not that mechanically inclined so I cant do it myself.
How much should I look at spending for a tune up and where can I take it besides the stealership?
That is a hard question to answer, it depends what is needed. Usually when people refer to a "tune" on the forum they are referring to a computer tune which can run $500. In your case I think you are talking about changing spark plugs and maybe plug wires. You might want to check your codes using the DIC and see if you are throwing any (codes) which might explain your rough idling. Here is the procedure for checking your codes in case you don't know how. Good luck!

yeah im just talking about getting the spark plugs, wires and fuel pump changed. Nothing major but I dont know how to begin myself. I know that when a friend and I did it on my Cobra it seemed easy but the Vette seems a little more sensitive. Would a simple tune be all that much at a local shop?

Fuel pump? Changing the fuel pump is a major job, labor wise. Is it acting up? Or did you mean fuel filter?
Like I said earlier, check and see if you are throwing any codes that might explain the rough idle, then go from there.
is changeing the fuel pump really alot of labor? I changed mine twice in under two hours. just had to drain the tank twice and run to the gas station twice. ( the pump we put in didnt work)
Depends who is doing it. A shop might charge 3-4 labor hours for dropping the tank although it can be done in less time. I still think the original poster meant fuel filter and not fuel pump...we will see.
[QUOTE=WantstobuyaVette]Yeah im sorry I meant fuel filter.
Where can I check if im throwing any codes? I know the stealership can check anywhere cheaper though?[/QUOTE
Reread my other post (#3) I gave you a link telling you how to pull your codes and the codes are listed there also. It is free unless you want to send me some money.

Well I checked the codes and if Im understanding everything right then I am ok because every code that I had ended with an "H" which means its just from the past correct?
These are some of the codes ending in "H"
AO LDCM....B2208 H
B2282 H
B2284 H
A1-RDCM....B2265 H
BU164 H
etc....
So I guess im alright? The car is still ideling rough...maybe its time for that tune up.

If you have never replaced the plugs, do so! My vette was idling rough. Turns out a plug was missing a "puck" that helps conduct the spark. Runs much better after it was replaced. I hear it is a common problem. I had to take it a dealership, as my darn hands/arms were just too big to get the #7 plug!
