What is the typical loss of power from the flywheel (crank) to the rear wheels. I was told a conservative number of 15%. Does this sound reasonable? I've heard as low as 12 and as high as 20.

I've always used 15% for manuals and 20% automatics as a rule. My car just laid down 384 rwhp so thats about 452 at the flywheel.

Yeah, 15% is what I was told as well. What kind of mods do you have to get up to 384?

Well mine's an '01 so it's rated at 385 from the factory. I never dyno'd it stock but with a Vortex Rammer intake it made 341 rwhp SAE corrected.

Now I have:

-Vortex Rammer
-Wide air bridge
-MAF screen removed
-Kooks 1 3/4ths headers w/ cats
-Borla Stinger catback
-Luk Stage II clutch w/ Fidanza aluminum flywheel (only 14 lbs vs. 25 stock)

-Lots of other HPDE stuff.

So... I'd guess the car would dyno about 335 bone stock and I'm now sporting 50 more rwhp after bolt-ons and a dyno-tune.

FWIW I asked Jeff at CAM for a road racing tune which stresses safe air fuel ratios and broad torque... so we could have leaned it out more for a few more ponies, but when you're WOT for 30 min sessions you want safety and no detonation.

Default Thanks!

I have an 04 comm Z. Right now, just halltech intake, x pipe, and borla stingers...and a tune of course. Pulling rear wheel: 369 hp and 366 tq. I'm thinking about adding LG longtube headers in the next couple of months. Thanks for your input...I appreciate that. I don't know why no one else can give their two cents but thats the way it goes. Take Care

My tuner said that the c5 z06's are normally right at 17%. It falls right in between 15-20% so it sound good to me.

I would say more in the 13-14% loss according to some experts--go to the drag strip and your mph will tell the story
