Lift handle, select grade, remove gas cap, insert nozzle, squeeze and set auto shutoff device, put hands in pockets, return nozzle to gas pump when complete.
Now get out there...

Just to give this post some closure, that was the correct part #, about $25 delivered from GMpartsdirect.com. I had to break the original piece completely to get it out, and remove the gas door catch, gas door, and about 5 mounting screws. It takes some very small hands and manuvering of the filler neck, but I was able to install the replacement piece. It was no easy task, though.

I can see other laws like this comming in to effect causing people to have to take technical and college courses to pump gas at the local Quickie Mart.

Same laws exist in Oregon. The laws also exist in Richmond, BC. From what I was told there was a severe accident and they changed the laws.

Just when you think you have heard everything. Lets see, I am 37 so I have been pumping my own gas for 21 years. I wonder if that qualifies me as an "expert"? Pumping gas is not rocket science. You put the nozzle in the hole and fill up the tank without spilling any. I have supervised my 7 year old son filling up my work car (not Vette). How could a law this absurd get introduced AND passed?
On the bright side at least they owned up to the mistake and offered to fix it. That is more than a lot of people do now.

Glad you got it fixed. Charge them something for your install time too.
Glad we don't have a law like that here.

Wonder if NJ will allow car owners to take that intensive one-day gas pumping training?

I hate visiting the gf in NJ and having someone else pump my gas. She hates leaving NJ because she had to figure out how to pump gas. Get rid of that dumbass law.
