Could you explain what a C5 seller is referring to in the following? Is it traction control or F45 ride selection or something? Sorry, I tried searching and did not find help. "...it has a button that changes the way the car handles and also the way that the gears or clutch is applied. It is supposed to give what the dealer said was to handle like a race car or put in another position will never allow you to over rotate the tires so there is no way you can poop the clutch and spin the tires..."
Thanks for the help! Sorry if it is a dumb question. Jon
Ride control is a system that electically changes the viscosity of the of the fluid in the shocks allowing you to get a smoother ride (for a sports car) or a stiffer one for the twisties. there are actually 3 settings Traction control ties together the bcm and pcm to keep you from either spinning out or breaking the tire loose for long burnouts. Chirps in 2 or 3 gears are still possible. It basically works by modulating the ABS and the throttle to help keep control in extreme turns and acceration But it can be turned off at the push of a button so if you wanna drop 5 or 10 bucks worth of rubber in front of your girlies house No sweat....Hope that helps

Sounds to me he is just a little confused as to what the button on the console is supposed to do.
I guess I did not explain the situation clearly. The seller I quoted was just trying to answer my question on whether his car has Z51. He does not know, lol, must just not be a real Corvette nut. So I asked if it has the F45, to which he responded with the quote I gave in the first post. He is trying to find the window sticker to confirm what he has on the car. He is not the original owner. So I am just wondering if it seemed obvious to you C5 owners if it is a ride selection option or traction option that he has on the car.

Does it have a button AND a 3 position selector switch on the center console??
Depending upon what year (and how competent the seller is) he could be referring to traction control (available on all C5's), active handling (came out in '98), both of these will be a button or selective ride control which is a three position ****. It sounds to me as if he is describing some active handling. The option codes will be on a decal in the glove box or on the cover of the rear compartment on the drivers side.
I have a 97 A4 with the F45 suspension and what you are talking about is the Real Time Dampning (RDS) system which has sensors on all four corners of the car with a selector switch on the counsel to select for a stiffer ride when you want it.

Not a dumb question. There are indeed, TWO types of Corvette people. Corvette LOVERS and Corvette drivers. Drivers just treat them like any other car and don't get hooked by mods, polishing, fancy add on's etc. Nothing wrong with either type, but when you buy one used from an individual, a LOVER will be easy to pick out because he cannot shut up about the car and tells you more than you want to know. He probably will tell you the waxing and oil change schedule that YOU should adhere to along with the mechanic of choice at his repair shop. Don't smoke a cigar while talking to this type.
On the inside of the glove box is an options code list and you should get that number from the seller, With that in hand, you can be assured of what is on the machine as factory built.
Thanks for the suggestions from a couple of you...I sent an e-mail to the seller asking for the number on the label in the glove box, or a pic of it, and some pics of the dash close up too. This is a great forum! Jon
