Condition, driveability being equal, what is the best buy - a 98 coupe w/35k mi or a 00 coupe w/69k mi. Price is about the same (maybe $500 less for the 98).
all things being equal, i would most likley opt for the lower mileage. why? because alot of maintenance issues are related to mileage. but if a 35k car was road hard and put up wet, of course that would not be good deal/idea!

Unless there were some really strong mitigating reasons, I agree with the rest. Buy the lower mileage car. I don't think there were any huge jumps in features between 98 and 00 to warrant going with the higher mileage car. In my case, I just purchased a 55k mi '02, but it had more things that I wanted than earlier models and most critically, it came with a lot of life left on a zero deductible GM Major Guard warranty.
I would go for the '00. Based on the responses, I may be the lone wolf... BUT
70K miles is average for a '00.
The car has more than half it's life left
The value of it in my opinion is worth at least $3K more than a compararable condition '98....( with the difference in miles accounted for in the value)
Buy the '00. It is a beter deal and the better value.
I would not make a big deal about the mileage as they are both fairly low mileage as far as the life of the car goes. A few more things to consider are the options on them. Are you comparing a stripped/loaded car? Also, check the tread left on the tires. A set will cost about $1500 so that could easily eat up any so called savings.
You need to consider what you are going to do with the car. If you are using as a daily driver and are going to put alot of miles on it ... buy the one with lower miles. If it is a second car, or one not driven alot, I'd buy the '00, your low milage will bring it back in line for resale.
I'd also be quite clear on the level of options, tires and any other immediate cash you'd want to spend on either to get it all equal.
In the end .... it's your choice, be satisfied with the one you make.
