C5 ebay buyers
Who has bought a C5 on ebay? I keep hearing comparsions like you can get "this kind of optioned C5 at this price" etc. I couldn't trust the experience knowing the level of fraud out there. I didn't buy mine there. How many out there are actually buying their car on there? And at what price? Is it as good a judge as people seem to think? Just curious... because so many people now say "You can buy one for xxx price on ebay."
I bought my first one off of e-bay. got a good deal and drove it for about a year.
Looked for my 2nd one - wanted a convertable...didn't find anything that I liked. If I did would have done it again.
Just do all of the things that you would normally do when buying a car.
If you can test drive it, do so, etc.
I found one at a dealership - from auto trader.
Just got it 2 days ago.
I say if you do find something, get it checked out and see what kind of deal that you can get. Even if you don't hit the reserve, make an offer via e-mail. Chances are that the person will make some type of deal with you.
There is my 2 cents

I didnt buy on E-Bay but I think that your point is well taken, as the Incredable level of fraud is so well documented and E-Bays patented responce is always we only "profit" from all the fraud, we dont actualy commit the fraud
and we in the past have had some very good exchanges on this right here on the forum

I bought my EB '02 coupe from eBay about 3 months ago. It had 5700 miles on it and now has 9000. It is loaded and in perfect condition...truely like new. I felt very comfortable after talking with the owner, otherwise I would have passed. I got the car for $31,950.00 Not bad for a basically brand new car. It also had Borlas, B2 Vararam, Z06 front screens and a vinyl filter for the glass top. The same car here in Los Angeles was about 3 grand more and I couldn't find the right one.
I also imported a old style Mini Cooper ( bought from ebay ) from the Netherlands and the deal worked out great. I know there are a lot of scammers out there.....so buyer beware!!
Here's some pics of my baby (yes, I like to show it off!!!):

We bought our 99 coupe on ebay Sept 04. It had 30K miles and we paid 24K for it. We are in PA and we bought it from a couple in FL. I was very cautious and did a lot of research on the car before I took the plunge. We did a Carfax check (perfect), called FL DMV and got information on it (perfect). We even called the dealership that sold and serviced the car and they sent us a fax of all the service records, etc from day 1 (w/owner permission). I even checked out the owners by contacting some of their neighbors and asking general Q's about them (how long have they lived there, etc). The owners had 7 cars and the vette was just one that the wife took out on nice days occasionally. They had all the cars detailed every two months and were all garage-kept. I was finally satisfied and we bought it through ebay's automotive system (no problems). Even set up financing with them. Since school was in session we couldn't fly down and drive it back so we had it shipped from FL to our front door by Exotic Car carriers. They had an enclosed truck with five other cars they were shipping. Everything went perfectly. When the vette arrived they unloaded right in front of the condo and needless to say our neighbors were in awe. It was in perfect condition.
It was a scary experience but if you do your homework and everything possible to check out the car first...

I have not bought any cars on EBAY , but I have purchased parts.
I have made 28 purchases through EBAY and PAYPAL. So far i have purchased approx. $800 worth of engine, exterior, interior, and exhaust parts with a Ecklers catalog value of over $9000.
You have to know your parts well ! There are a few guys waiting to rip you off. But in general, I feel that there is no better place to buy your parts.

Bought my Aniv 03 Vert on Ebay and couldn't be happier... Private buyer, 10K miles. If you do your due diligency you will be fine. Have the seller take it to a dealer and have an inspection done, run a car fax and get to know the seller.

Bought my 98 a year and a half ago through Ebay for $15k. Bought it through a dealer who sells on Ebay. As with any major purchase, do the effort to know what you want, what you want to pay, and what your "ideal" value would be. Bottom line: do your research and ask questions before you commit to anything.
If you don't, isn't it partly your fault?

I bought my vert on eBay. It only had 1650 miles on it. There were a ton of pictures on the listing and it looked as good as new, as it should have.
I was pretty comfortable after checking out Carfax, DMV records, the seller's feedback ratings, and talking with the owner. I was lucky enough that I could then drive to the seller's location (a pre-owned dealer who sells only high-end, clean, low-mileage cars and trucks) and really check it out.
Obviously you can get burned so you have to do your homework.

New school technology is great. Sorry for those who are not internet savvy.
I have bought two cars off ebay, one of which is my 01 silver coupe/torch red interior 6 spd w/ 22,500 miles for 28K. Great deal, could have never found
anything like it. I called the dealer up, made the deal, flew to NJ, inspected it, and drove it home 1,100 mile to TN, what a great experience! Just use common sense and do your homework!

I bought my '96 C-4 and my '02 Z06 off eBay. As mentioned, do your homework, ask questions AND don't assume anything! If possible, wait until you see the car before you pay for it...everybody has their own perception of a cars condition.
With the help of Sam (eBay username: mintcorvettes) , I ended up with a 1 owner '02 Z06 w/2,700 miles in pristine condition.
