Default Removing body side moldings

I know there was a post about it this morning, I need more information on how to do it, how long it takes, and if I can do it by myself - or leave it for Mikey

Thanks

In the past folks with new C5's would just pull them off and then clean up the residue. I seen guys use fishing line behind the BSM's and others heat with a hair dryer which would loosen up the adheasive. What you might be faced with now that they have been on for sometime is a permanent line left from the adheasive. Maybe you should at least work with Mikey on the Mod.
Good luck

Another recent thread mentioned sore thumbs from the process, which I assume included fishing line. You might want to get a pair of thick leather work gloves. A hair dryer reportedly helps soften the adhesive, then I suppose you'd clean up what's left with GooGone or something equivalent. Sounds like it'd take a while, and once you start, you gotta finish.

Look at the 4th or 5th post.. he explains how he does it with a few items found in his tackle box and garage shelf...

I'm not sure what mods you've tackled solo C5-Girl... ie: when you lowered your baby, did Mikey help you do that or were you on your own?

I have not removed my own but I have removed items similar... it usually takes patience, time and some elbow grease... The big thing is to remove the residue and not leaving scratches behind...

Read that thread and see what you think... Do a search for a few others.. there is 3 or 4 a week on BSM removal... if not more...

Having help is not a bad thing... but if you have the skills, rock on!!

I'm looking to trade in my car and a car with BSM's actually make me think twice about buying it. Get rid of them, I can't tell you how because I've never done it....but get rid of them!

Hi C5-GIRL -

You need 14lb test monfilament fishing line (others sizes might work, but that is a good start), a hand-held blow-dryer, and a can of WD-40.

Start at the back end and work to the front. Spray WD-40 on the top side of the adhesive strip. Warm up the area with the blow-dryer, and then slowy start "sawing" the adhesive strip using the fishing line.

Have your assistant (who is manning the blow-dryer becuase you need both hands for the fishing line....) gently pry the end of the BSM away from the body as you continue your sawing. You will break the fishing line many times, just get a new piece and back at it.

Once you have the BSM off, there will be adhesive left on the paint surface. Removing this is where the sore-thumb syndrome comes into play .

You can rub the adhesive off with your thumbs - you'll see that I mean.

My friend WAMARA and I performed the removal on his beautiful MY Z06, and you can't tell it ever had a BSM.

best regards -

Hi EG -

Good idea using the masking tape to ward off scratches - I'll do that next time!

best regards -

I still have a huge blister left on my thumb and my other fingers were sore for a day or two. Gloves didn't seem to work at all when trying to roll of the leftover adheisive. I looks like a different car now. 100% cleaner line down the side. Mine were on for almost six years and you cannot tell they were ever there now. Good luck.

Love mine. Looks more aggressive. Without looks a little classier. Pewter and silver look better without to me.
