I bought my 2001 in Sep of 2000. Paid sticker. I think it's always a mistake to pay sticker, but folks I talked to at the time thought it was a pretty good deal.
As I recall folks weren't paying to much over MSRP for a new Z back then. I guess folks didn't know how much cache the name Z06 would add to the vette line up. They do now thanks to the C5 Z and look what folks are willing to pay for a new C6 Z06 now? It's obscene and doesn't make any fiscal sense. It will depreciate like any used Corvette.
i'm the 2nd owner of an 01-the original owner paid $48k+ and he said it was around $50k out the door....he only put 4k mi on it and i got it 2 1/2 yrs ago for 36k.....and its still a great ride...

That poor guy paid about $3.50 a mile in depreciation! That doesn't even include gas, oil or insurance.
I ordered my Yellow Z in August of 2000, and it took longer than the 2 months they dealership indicated. As the months went by, I was offered black, red and silver ones, but I didn't want them. Then I found a couple yellow Z's going for 5k and 10k markups, but I see no point in wasting that kind of cash. I finally had my Z delivered in June of 2001 at MSRP. Since this was a month before GM began production on the 405HP '02 model, the dealership asked if I still wanted it. I took it knowing that I would add some kind of forced induction and not willing to wait another 10 months. I think there were premiums on yellow the first year.
Most were asking 5k over the first year. Remember that when they first came out, the list was lower, GM saw the dealers geting big markup. So what did they do? Raised the list price a few times that year!!! Capitalisim at it's best.
