Looking to buy a 2000 Millenium Coupe. Driver's side mirror has a 1 in. long scratch 1/16 in. wide at the front of the mirror that is noticeable. Can this be touched up with a touch up/clear and than rubbed out with mild compound by hand? Since Millenium Yellow is a special paint, I thought that it might pose special problems in touchup?

The clear has tint in it, so it is not the easiest color to touch up.
Had to take my Vert to the shop after trying to use the touch up paint. MY Touch up paint didn't work well for me. Using touch up for places where you can't really see might work ok.
I'm not sure if you're asking it YOU can do this yourself, or simply if the MY can be matched ok (by, say, a professional). But I had some rocker damage fixed at one point, and you can't tell that it was done. My shop matched the MY perfectly.
Whereas the factory used tint in the clear, I think that the color can be matched in the actual paint (as opposed to in the clear).
If I were you, I wouldn't let the thought of having to have the mirror repaired keep you from getting the car.
I too have a Millinium Yellow 2000 C5 and have had to use that touch up paint that Rickko shows...a tip for you; pour a very small amount into a cap (I used one from an old vitamin container) and then take a book of matched and take one match out and use the back end (not the end that you would light the match) and use that paper as the brush...does that make since what I just tryed to explain? Go easy and light on the paint and gently fill in the scratch, you should not have to sand after.....good luck.
