Default Problem with clutch cable???

I think I have a problem with my clutch cable (if Corvettes even have cables) or something. I was driving my car home from my sister's wedding last night and my clutch in my '98 6speed wouldn't come all the way back up. It would come up past the friction point but not all the way back up unless you popped it up with your toe. So I got it home and went to turn it around in the driveway and found that I couldn't get the car into reverse. I was able to shut the car off, shift to reverse, and then restart the car with the clutch pushed in. Car backed up but then wouldn't go into 1st gear. I finally got it park but now you can't get it into any gears while it is running. If you start the car with it in gear (e.g. 1st) it'll just slowly drive down the road, even without touching the gas pedal. You also can't hardly shift the car while it is running.

I had a similar problem with similar symptoms with a Subaru I drive (pedal sticking to the floor, not able to put car in 1st or reverse). With the Subaru it needed the clutch cable readjusted and it was fine. Could this be a similar problem with my Vette? I'm taking it tomorrow to a transmission shop to be looked at. The owner of the shop used to own a Corvette and knows all about the cars.

Any thoughts on what this might be?

Good to know that it doesn't have cables. So if it is a clutch master problem, what sort of repairs am I looking at? All new parts, readjusting, etc?

new.depending on what's wrong.you could have a bad master,hydraulic leak,bad pressure plate,etc.your problem is definitely clutch.check your clutch master fluid level to start.if it's low.look for a leak.if it's leaking at the slave[inside bell housing]it's time for the whole 9 yards

I've didn't notice any fluids on the floor of the garage when I pulled it out yesterday. Of course I guess this could be something that blew out as opposed to a slow leak. I truly hope it's something minor however, but I guess I should prepare for the worst.

Never fear though, my lady will be back on the road cruising soon!

I had the exact same thing happen on my subaru, and now its starting to do it on my c5. On the subaru it was the internal seals of the slave cylinder sticking/leaking. Replaced the slave on the subaru and it worked fine. I suspect its the same on the vette. Just a pain to get to the slave to check it though.

Wanted to give a quick update on my clutch problem. I took it into a transmission shop. They were able to put some brake fluid in the slave cylinder and the clutch pedal was fine and the car worked great. We put the car up in the air to look for any leaks or wetness underneath. Found nothing. Looked at the carpet and all around and still found nothing.

I drove the car back to my house from my sister's wedding (~125 miles) and as soon as I pulled into my neighborhood my pedal stuck again and I couldn't get the car out of gear. Pushed the car into my garage and looked at it again. This time I found brake fluid leaking from the slave cylinder. So I think you guys before were more then correct. So now I'm investigating fixing that.

Anyone done it before? I do most of my own maintenance and have rebuilt three Subarus before. Corvettes aren't Subarus though so I'm wondering if I'd be getting way over my head changing out the slave cylinder. Thanks in advance for any advice or support.

IIRC changing the slave requires you remove the driveshaft. That something you're comfortable with?
