I recently picked up a nitro gas powered r/c car (It originally came with a BMW M3 body and although it looked good, a wanted something a lot cooler). I was able to order a 1/10 scale clear lexan C5 body on line, and Friday night I finished up spraying the paint and adding the decals. I wasn't able to get the exact Navy Blue Metallic as my real car, since the lexan body requires a special paint that flexes, but it came out pretty close, considering I picked up the color in some spray cans from the local hobby shop. The car has 2.5cc, 1.5 hp motor and a 2 speed tansmission. It runs on Nitro fuel and has a top speed of 50 mph. The car is all wheel drive, has some serious torque and does some wicked doughnuts and drifts. Attached are a few pics for those who are intested:
And a few pics without the body.
Since my car is in resting in the garage right now for the winter, I can at least cure my fix a litttle bit
you have got to email me a link to a dealer....thats f-ing sweet!
Thanks. The manufacturer is HPI racing.
The r/c car that I picked up and pictured above is the HPI RS4 3 Evo. The stock rims that come with the initial pakcage, look very similar to the Z06 rim. I purchased the rims shown (HPI wide rim) and some diretional tires (26mm) off of Ebay.
The RTR (ready to run) kit includes the car, controller, a few tools, etc. and runs about $300. In addition to the above you need to buy a glow plug igniter, some batteries for the controller and some nitro fuel, (approx another $50). I did a search on ebay and found one that had only been run about 3 - 4 times for about half the price of a new one. Like anything though, you need to check it out and asks some question if purchasing used so that you don't wind up with a worn out motor. (Although you can rebuild the motor and replace with a larger piston and sleeve for about $60.
As far as the loudness..... let's just say my neighbor's don't think that it is the greatest thing since sliced bread
Believe it or not though, manufacturers do offer aftermarket pipes for these things that will really wake up the performance (and the neighbors even more). Kind of like B&B bullets on an R/C.
This thing is a riot though. One of my Corvette neighbors saw this run for about 2 minutes and will getting one of his own.
I use to have a 2wd car with a .12 cc engine. it did well over 50mph. This was 10 yrs ago. They actually have nitro cars that will do over 80mph. There are a few videos on the net.
