Default my first mods

just got the 70lb box form sportbrakes---cross drilled and slotted rotors. got new brake shoes last week.

jacking the blk vert up this weekend to paint the calipers Red.

My C-4 buddy says I should open the doors, trunk and hood before lifting it up, is this valid info or bs?

Should I go to the stealership to have the rotors and shoes put on--or can a friend and I do this our selves.

I have not worked on a car since 78 and that was a volkswagen bug---.

I ahve a feeling your C-4 buddy isa not really a buddy.

I would never do that, (open everything before lifting that is). Keep the body as taught and tight as you can when lifting....

You can correct me if you think I am wrong, but it seems like a bad idea to me to loosen the rigidity of the car when lifting.

Default Dump your buddy

The doors are part of the structural integrity of your C5. I would never lift any vehicle with any doors open. Ever.

By the way, disc brakes use "pads", not shoes.

You don't need to open anything to lift the C5. As for the brake job, it will come down to your abilities and comfort level. These are your brakes and may need to save your life someday. If you've done brakes in the past and are somewhat comfortable with a wrench, you should be fine. There is nothing unusual about the brake job on the C5.

Previous repliers are correct, this is not valid on the C-5. I believe the old myth went something like, the doors will pop off if you jack it up with them closed.......

The tire shops I used to go to always did this with my C4.....they claimed the rear window would shatter so they opened. Not sure if this was an urban myth or what.

I don't do this when working on my C5 and have never had problems.

All good info above. Just don't make the mistake I did when I painted my calipers: I left them on (well I DID disconnect them, let them hang and covered ALL surrounding parts with paper to avoid overspray), but I didn't cover the rest of the Vette. I had overspray everywhere!

BTW, it's been 2 years and they still look as good as they day I did them. The spray works great, IMO. I think there's a pic of them in "My Corvette Photos" in my avatar if you're interested.

Nice brake package you bought. Good luck with the install. No need to open the doors, etc when you lift.
