Default Heads-Only ?

I have an 05 CTS-V and won't be satisfied before it is making 400 hp to the ground.

It is about to get 1 7/8 Kooks, tuning, airbox, etc...That should put me at 380 ish.

The question...how to get the extra 20 ponies or more and have STOCK idle?

Option #1:

Any of the stealth cams: MTI Stealth II, CheaTR, GT2-3, Katech

Option #2:

Ported / Upgraded Heads.

Understandably, the ported heads cost more.

Any thoughts or Dyno results? We see tons of cam-only threads, but not many heads-only.

Subscribed to the thread.

I'm looking at the same option for my 01 Z. Intake, kooks 1 3/4s, hf cats, tuning.

Curious about the heads only option.

Tuners? Anybody?

GM Hi Tech did a stock 99 C5 w/ 70k miles and saw 37 rwhp using AFRs That was the 198/200 cam. I could only imagine the LS6 cam w/ headers could take advantage of the compression and ports.

How about input from...

EDC
AFR
CNC'd LS6
Patriots

I want my innocent, quiet Caddy to unleash some fury without shaking my clients out of their seats or breaking valve springs.

One of the guys from Speed Inc. (Larry: shop manager) bought a Z06 and didnt want any kind of choppy idle cam and wanted stock drivability out of his car, He added the cam, Longtubes, pulley, air intake and tuning and the car made 423/398 to the wheels and drives like stock, very slight lope at idle and barely noticeable, hell the stock cam in the Z06 makes the car shudder slightly at idle. I believe this is the 007 cam listed on the websight

www. ls1speed.com

I will most likely be adding this to my set up in the next month or so when the weather breaks here.

I've wondered what the following would make on an LS6 with stock cam:
AFR 205
Nice long tubes like LGMs
1.8 rockers
Port tb
LSX intake
Good airbox like Vararam

Anyone's guess.

Howdy!

I'm almost positive (maybe you can find it using the search, I tried with no luck) that someone did this down in Orlando, I was thinking it was at Mike's shop (NLP). All the boltons (headers, pulley, intake) with AFR205 heads and a 02+ spec LS6 cam for ~404rwhp.

Also on the other site(s) some tuners in IL reported doing ~420 again, with aftermarket heads, stock LS6 cam. The indication was it idled basically like a stock LS6.

Of course in either case, a really good tune!

That is strong!

The LPE GT2-3 Cam did really well in a few GTOs as well.

If money is not an issue you can't go wrong with head cam package. Call all the tuners up, they will tell you what HP you can expect.

I would go with AFR 205's shaved to 11:1 compression and skip the Kooks and go with LG Pros. I would guess you will be easily over your goal with this setup.

Does LG do his headers for the CTS-V (didn't know if you noticed but he has a Caddy!)? Didn't see them on the website.
