i can say that has never happened to me. Try pulling out the trunk button, it is simple with flat head screwdriver. look it over see if it looks damaged. I have gotten water on my leg/seat when it rains. I think that is from bad roof seals. I have never heard of anyone else having this problem either hopefully someone wiser than I will come along soon to help you out. Good Luck
Doug

I would guess a plugged-up cowl drain.

Have you a set of Factory Service Manuals for your 1999? If so, have you reviewed section 8 - 'waterleaks'?

Thankfully, we've had on leaks, so no experience to go on.

However, if the cowel area does fill up, even a little bit, with water, then I agree with the suggestion that it might be plugged-up cowl drain -- there are two 'udders' (yes a cow term) which hang down below the driver's side cowl vent (below windshield, air vent input area) which can collect dust/dirt and/or just become dry and stick closed.

You should be able to just reach down and squeeze/massage them to dislodge any junk that is clogging them.

The junk will then fall down onto the under carriage cover plate (rearward of the driver side wheel) and can be vacumed up (using the typical shop-vac hose extensions -- to prevent water from collecting in/around the junk).
