You'll want the boot -- as I just learned when installing a C6Z06 shifter in my C5. The bottom of the C6 **** (where the **** meets the boot) is a fair bit larger than the C5 boot. While I've read the C5 boot can be modified (cut threads at hole top hole, zip-tie to C6 **** base), I concluded that I didn't want to start my C5 ownership by hacking up bits. I purchased a C6-to-C5 boot from Ken King (vette essentials).

Reason: correct typo; more accurate boot description
I customized my C5 boot to mesh up with the C6 Shifter & ****. I cut a few stitches and then curled it under until the shaft from the C6 shifter would slide through. From there I purchased a few O-Rings from Lowes and they keep the boot tight around the shaft. Looks stock and cost me $2 and about 15 mins of my time!
