Default Z06 vs Standard vette

The standard C5 vette has 350hp and I have a 6-sp so I have 375 ft lbs of torque. Does any one know the actual hp and torque of a Z06. I believe the hp and torque on a Z06 is way under rated--is that correct.

I'll be the bearer of bad news. The advertised HP / Torque is at the flywheel and in actual dyno tests will be no where near those figures.

well yeah the RWHP will be different. Figure a MN6 will lose around 15%.

With a few bucks (sic)you can make many cars perform in the Z06 envelope. But its handling, weight and power that you need to concerned about. The Z06 is a tough competitior right out of the box.

True,

we can make the C5 like a Z06, but not exactly. We can do upgrades and put it in the same area as a stock Z06, or a little better. I just love having the convertible, and I little extra power.

Now make the 06 Z06 a vert, and Id have to start softing up the wife convincing her that I "need" that car !!!

I don't need the convetible, but I do "need" that car!

As mentioned before, a good heads and cam setup will surpass the rwhp power of the ZO6, but the badge says it all, it will always be a ZO6 and have far more little things that out perform the coupe, such as the suspension, tires (stock tires), the block is different than that of an LS1 block and more. I often wish I would of just bought the ZO6, but I love being able to remove my roof on my coupe!

BUT....While your happily making your mods to be as fast as a Z06, the Z06 guys are happily making their mods to go faster too. It's a vicous, never-ending quest.

There should be a stock C6 Z06 at the track in March. I will let you know how my C5 Vert does against him. After talking to one of the race drivers who has seen both the Z06 & my car run, he thinks it would be close but that I may a slight edge due to my higher torque and stock Z06's due have a couple of issues. Now if the Z06 driver starts modding...then I will be watching his taillights.

Back to the original question, C5 vs Z06, it is a lot more than just HP that makes the Z06 faster. And handle better.

We all know it is Driver talent too. I have seen smaller 4 cyc cars run circles around the big V8s just because the driver was much better.

I wanted the roof to come off my car so really my only choice was the coupe. I also wanted the power of the Z06 and handling so I knew once I got it home I was going to change everything.

Next year I will upgrade the engine to either a 427 or 402 and start all over again.

Your right it is a never ending cycle...

It would be cheaper in the long run to just get the Z06, rather than mod a C5 to be a Z06 IMHO...

Hi Gary -

The actual RWHP and TQ of my stock Z06 after a computer dyno-tune is 372/375 measured on a Mustang dyno at one of the Corvetteforum Cruise In events.

The car had stock airbox and exhaust - no changes except the tune by Ernie Francis of Breathless.

Stock 02-04 Z06's generally range from 350-365 hp bone stock (no tuning). My car did 356 RWHP prior to the tuning.

Most stock C5's I have seen dyno go right around 300-310 RWHP.

best regards -
