Default What is wrong with the steering wheel?

It's just not "right" and I cant quite tell what it is.

Too big?

Too small?

Too thick?

Too thin?

I've tried up, down, closer, farther and it's just not right.

The only thing I know for sure is the leather is a little slippery if my hands are sweaty.

Anyone else feel this way? Who's using an aftermarket steering wheel and what are you using?

I recommend cleaning it, there could be armour-all or some other conditioner on it.

Slippery isnt really the problem. The wheel just doesnt feel right in my hands, like it's the wrong size or something.

Take a look at the Caravaggio (sp?) steering wheel. They have these thumb graps that are very comfortable not to mention you have a better sense of control. My wheel is from Vette Essentials and the leather does feel a bit slippery, with my dry hands I don't feel very secure at times

Sell the car. You are getting too picky too soon and you obviously will never be happy with it. Let someone who can appreciate a Vette have her.

My steering wheel feels fine to me. Haven't really seen others out there.

I know exactly what you mean. There's nothing wrong with our steering wheel but it's nothing special either. A friend of mine has a BMW 540i with the sport package which includes the M wheel and it feels great. Smaller in diameter, deeper and thicker than the C5's, really feels substantial in your hands.

Make sure to use a good leather conditioner/cleaner. If you decide to use something else, don't use a water based product such as Amoral. It will cause a nasty film, dry, and crack the finish on the wheel if not properly taken care of. Use something that is silicone based if you must. Leather conditioner/cleaner is a good way to go, though.

Try an inexpensive cover to see if adding a little diameter to the wheel would help.
