Default Will my C5 like it in TX?

Guys, I'm getting tired of not being able to drive my C5 in LA traffic, plus the friggin real estate here is disgusting. To pay off my house would take decades versus I could own one outright in less than 2 years if I move to Dallas or Austin.

So what do you guys think.. I heard of the pros but what are the cons of moving out to Dallas, Houston, or Austin?

Well...there are a lot of higways in that state that have a great deal fewer cars on them...Plus, it is closer to Bowling Green where they have some awesome events!

I'd talk to the guys on the regional forum. I like San Antonio: real estate is reasonable, it's not too too big, Dallas, Houston, Austin are relatively easy drives and the best reason of all - nearby Texas Hill Country with it's great cruising. Does get warm in summer, though.

I was doing more research, and a bit concerned about the crime level. I'm not sure if it's accurate or not, but 'areaconnect.com' says Houston, Dallas, and Texas rank worse on crime (particularly violent crimes) in comparison to even the worst neighborhoods I'm familiar with such as Compton, Fontana and Santa Ana, CA.

What are your opinions?

Come on over to Arkansas. Rush hour driving here means about 10-15 minutes added to your commute.

Ya, but from what I hear, Arkansas folk don't take to Asians very well. I had a friend w/ a nightmare of a story while visiting there.

Sorry to hear that. We're not all like that! Little Rock is not that way as a rule I believe. I work at the Medical Center at Little Rock and there are lots of Asians that work here.

In Houston, housing is cheap, the traffic sucks, property taxes are high, but other than that, it's a great place to live.

Yes, but Texas doesn't have a state income tax. So that's gotta be nice!

I live in South Texas and I go to San Antonio frequently. It is an absolutely beautiful town. Austin is just an hour North West of San Antonio. The Texas Hill Country is very nice, very diverse.

As a true "native Texan", I can't think of many other places that have as much diversity as Texas - although you may have to drive for hours upon hours to get to them..

Rivers, Lakes, Ocean, Mountains, Forests, Deserts, Plains, Hi-Plateau's, etc..

Dallas (my stomping ground) has just become like any other major metro area. To much concrete and too much traffic (although my commute is only 2.3 miles a day) Compared to ANYTHING in California, you would easily claim a Bonanza on real estate here.

Houston - much like Dallas, except it 'stinks" when the wind blows from certain directions - Stinkadena- avoid at all costs! North and West or North and Northeast of Houston.. Nice country.

Austin, a cool place to live - tons of things to do. Huge college town, very progressive, state capital, lots of scenery - hill country to the west makes some good 2 lane vette driving feel fun! More pricey, and overgrown for the highway system (IMHO).

San Marcos - alternative - between AUS and SAT. Like warm weather? Got plenty of it to go around! The further south from Dallas you go, the higher the humidity.

Frankly I'd love to have Texas Cost of living in California! OH..one other thing. The ground here don't move around

Cool, thanks for the input guys. Can anyone give me honest opinion of crime though? I think that's the only thing holding me back.

I live in the suburbs of San Antonio and this is a very affordable area and the crime in our area is nothing compared to California--I know I am orginially from there. To me the best areas to live is in the Hill country North of San Antoino or up through the Austin area. Affordable and lots of roads to get your Vett out on
