I am new to the forum even though I'v been reading it for awhile. I'd just like to say I'm amazed how helpful you all are to each other, I think thats great. Now about my problem. I have a 98 vette that on occasion won't open its right eye, The light comes on but the door stays shut, Sometimes if I recycle the light switch it will work. and sometimes if I do that neither light door will open. I replaced the worn drive gears six months ago, so I dont think there is a problem there. I also replaced the headlight module behind the right headlight .No help. Is it possible I have a bad ground? Does anyone know where the ground for the right headlight is located? I'd appreciate any help or ideas you may have.

I would take a close look at the connectors going into the headlight that sits on top of the fender. Open it up and look inside for any corrosion. Also, I would check the connectors that go into the accuator module that is mounted on the passenger side headlight bucket. Again, make sure that the connections are clean and tight.
Beyond that - you might have to check the both the worm gear and the round gear. You did not say if you used the aftermarket brass gears or the OEM nylon gears. If you used the OEM or the Rodney Dickman set, you are still utilizing the rubber bumpers in the gear that the shaft passes through. If you used Brent Franker's brass gears, there are no rubber bumpers.
I just went through this exercise a couple of weeks ago, and it struck me that the Rodney Dickman set of brass gears are well made, but continue to utilize the rubber. And it's the rubber that seems to take the greatest beating....
Thanks for the info and suggestions. I did use the Dickman repair gears so I'll look into that. I'v already checked those connectors but I'll check them again. I appreciate the help.
