Default Goodyear Gator Back Belts = quiet

Something in my engine bay started squeeking, not sure what it was I first started with the belts. I put some belt dressing on the main serp and the squeeking went away. It would come back 5 minutes later. The belt was a Dayco belt a little over a year old. I figured what the heck, I replaced with a Goodyear Gator Back after searching high and low. For some reason it is a rare belt none of the local parts stores carry. I had to get it from an Autozone 30 miles away near where I work. It is designed to be quieter. I thought, we'll wait and see. I put the Gator Back on, and sure enough it is quiet! We'll see if it lasts, but so far I'm sold on Gator Backs vs the damn Dayco's.

Those have been the only belts I have put on any of my vehicles in the past several years.

My car recently developed a squeal/squeak and its driving me nuts. I sprayed some water on the belt and pullies just to check and the noise went away for 45 seconds and then came back again I eyeballed closely and no pullies seem to wobble or anything I was going to start out with the new belts first thing. What is the part number(s) for the belt(s) did you get? Did you replace both the belts?

FWIW - there is a TSB around that tells a GM tech to replace the idler pulley when a customer complains about a belt squeek. I had a belt-like squeek and replaced both belts...squeek went away...for a while...then it came back. Replaced the idler pulley...squeek went away...hope it stays away this time.

Make sure you check for correct part numbers. If I recall at least one of the Gatorback belts part numbers change thru the C5 model run. Can't recall what year it was, but if you check the Goodyear site, you'll get the proper belt numbers.

Well ordered mine through Auto Zone today. They should be here tomorrow. Cost was about $49.xx with tax. Anyone got any instructions on how to change both belts?

The last 3 numbers is how many inches the belt is ex.802 is 80.2 in and 798 is just shy of 80 in. anybody correct me if I'm wrong.

No specific instructions but -
It maybe easier to change the A/C belt from the bottom side of the car. There is not much room to take the tension off the pulley to get the belt on and off. I did both belts from the top in about 45 minutes, taking my time and making sure the belts were on the balancer.

Probably a pulley diameter dimension, alternator or p/s

Just put a 15 mm socket on the tensioner and tug releasing the tension. Bell will come right off.
