Default So I got a Leakdown test done.....

And I didnt have compression on 4 cylinders in my 98 C5.

Now I have to get new cylinder heads, gasket set and intake valves.

Cost with labor is $1912 at $65/hr for labor.

Any idea where I might be able to get the parts for cheaper online or some store??

The parts in the estimate seem cheap and would come with a warrenty but I would at least like to see if I have any options before I lay 2 large down.

your getting very close to a new short block ls2 or you can find on ebay a low milege ls1 engine. i would seriously consider this route before just rebuilding a bone stock engine.

I think for 2000 you can rationalize just about any new set of heads.

I would have your car towed to an aftermarket company, and have them install a set of aftermarket heads, for only pennies more.

Check out the for sale section on the forum. There are always heads and cams for sale. Good luck with the rebuild.

You should be able to get a used set of LS1 heads for about $250 that are in excellent condition, then a gasket and new bolts for $50. Then do it yourself install would be pretty easy......if it is just the heads that are the problem...

And he would have the same problem with heads and valves. I doubt a long block would cut his expense because of installation..

What makes them think its the heads that are a problem. Is it one bank that has no compression? Just want to make sure the problem is not in the bottom end.

I see you are from Baton Rouge. Have you talked to Jason at Thunder Racing or Allen at Futral Motor Sports? If not talk to them ASAP. Jimmy

What happened to the car to do this? Was it supercharged in a former life?

My understanding of it was that it was the Valves that needed to be replaced and that there was no compression in 4 cylinders and very little in the other 4.

I dont think I have new heads on the invoice just valves and labor???Does that make sense?

Missed a gear and redlined. Apperently that was enough. It wasnt even for that long but it bent the valves anyways.

Trust me I feel retarded I dont know how I messed it up this bad.

Gotcha... a mechanical overrev can really **** up a pushrod motor. Did you go 3rd back into 2nd instead of 4th?

When I'm road racing (HPDE) and have to put it in 5th I make the shift very slowly and deliberately... it'd suck to jam it back in 3td at 145 mph
