Default Lower control arm washer RECALL?

I have my 04 Z06(1800 miles) in storage and have not gotten around to taking care of this. Can I take this to any Chevy dealer or does it have to be one that deals in Z06's??? I purchased my Z about 1.5 hours away. How many of you really think this needs to be done ASAP?

I had mine done...took about 4 hours. You may want to seriously think about making the 1.5 trip to get it done and don't drive aggressively until it's done. It's a washers and the nuts...and if they break away at high speeds...better make sure your life insurance is paid up. You can get them done at any Chevy dealer. It's not that difficult of a swap. I asked for mine after they were done and they said no because they have to send them back to GM for inspection. From what I was told those washers were made from a different metal than the others and maybe prone to become brittle, crack and break away.

This is not a recall you want to mess around with.

Let me know if you have anymore questions...

Might as well do it since your not driving the car anyway, any chevy dealer should be able to do it. Might as well have them to any/all recalls while they are at it.

Did you receive a recall notice from GM? I would verify whether or not your VIN is subject to this recall before doing anything

I have an 04 Z and my VIN is not affected by this recall.

I have received a couple of notices, but I've been too lazy to deal with it. When the weather around here(Wisconsin) gets better, I will set up an appointment with my local Chevy dealer. Does it have to be realigned? I am just nervous to take it in because it is running just perfect and I would hate to see it get screwed up.

Yes, I believe it impacts certain 04 Vettes (Coupes, Verts, and Z06s) depending on the VIN:

Recall Bulletin 04043 – Lower Control Arm Ball Stud Washer

If your VIN is listed, you probably should take it in to a stealership and have it done

No need to have it re-aligned. Check with your local Chevy dealer to see if they have a certified Corvette mechanic. Also I would make sure you get with the mechanic and make sure they lift it properly. The two-post lifts at dealerships are sometimes not equipped to handle the clearance on a Vette, especially if it's lowered. Make sure they drive it up on some boards (2x8 or 10's), so the lifting pads on the lift will clear the rockers. Also if you have jacking pucks bring those too, that way they won't mess up the rockers. Even the mechanic that did mine was surprised at the jacking pucks (hockey puck with eye bolts) and said he was going to make a pair for the shop. Also some dealers, small ones may let you watch the mechanic do the work, but for insurance reasons, most will not let you back in the garage. But it's worth an inquiry anyways.

Good luck...

I think I will drive the 1.5 hours and let my original dealership perform the recall. They sell a ton of vettes and are known for working on Z's. When the weather warms up, I will plan on blowing a whole day on the recall...

I had this recall done on my 04 Z at the dealer where I bought it. They have an excellent Corvette tech. It took about an hour and a half to complete the work. This is one recall you really should get done promptly.

Had mine done at a local Chevy dealer (Speedway Chevy in Monroe,WA). They had a car waiting for me to use for the day. Came back in the afternoon and picked up the Z. Did 2 DE's before this without problems.

This dealer has been EXCELLENT, contrary to the experience of others with different issues & other dealers!
