Default Extended Warranty Question

Hello -

I would like to get your opinions regarding an extended warranty for my 03 Coupe. And please, if there is a thread that already addresses my question please point me in that direction. I did a quick search and did not see anything.

My 03 Couple will fall out of the 3 year /36,000 mile warranty in one month. I spoke with the local dealer and for $1800 they offer an extended warranty which will cover me for two more years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. I've got 24,000 miles on the car now.

My fear is that something major will go wrong and I will be out of pocket for the costly repair. I have heard the following prices regarding repairs.

$700 - Fuel pump
$1100 - A/C Compressor
$3000 - Transmission

I'd like to hold on to the car for another year or two. The warranty is transferrable and I can even sell back the unused portion of the warranty if I choose to. The warranty is with a company called MPP.

What are your thoughts and opinions?

Thanks in advance,
Darin

look into "warranty direct" this is who I went with.
I haven't used it -yet
they were highly recomended in the forum-you might find some info on them in a forum search.
I toke a low mileage long term package out to 2010 on my 2003 coupe, I think it cost about $1200.
they have a web site that will est. your cost.
you can use a local shop or a dealer for repairs. they give roadside assist.
good luck

Not certain what you're proposing. You say you only have one month left on the original warranty. Did you check with the dealer to get an extended warranty with GMPP? That seems to be what most people are doing if the vette is still under factory warranty.
You say you only plan to keep the car for another year or two...is that right? You only have 24000 miles on it? It might be better to just take a chance and not get an extended warranty and pay a lot of money for it...instead just use that money IF you end up having a costly repair in the next year or two (if that's all the longer you're planning to keep the car). With only 24K the chances are very slim that you would have that kind of expense anyway. It sounds like you're pretty easy on the car if you're only putting 8K a year on it.
Warranty Direct is a possibility if you want to actually go for an extended warranty (and not get the GMPP warranty from GM).
Last week I got an extended warranty through my AAA membership from a AAA club in Florida. They offer great coverage at a reasonable price and will back the warranty if the company that provides it goes under. That's what convinced me to go with it. I recently got burned on one of those other internet warranty companies and didn't want to have that happen again. From what I've found out there's no warranty company (internet or otherwise) that isn't immune from going out of business. That's why I wanted AAA to back it up.

Best of Luck...this extended warranty thing is a real pain in the *** for vette owners in particular.

Good prices on GMPP.

Also, keep in mind that if you sell or trade the car before the GMPP warranty expires, you can get a pro-rated refund on the unused portion.

I have responded back to djc11571 concerning his dilemma which is not one at all. Thanks to all of you who have posted to contact me, I really appreciate the kudos given to me on the forum. I just take care of each individual customer to the best of my ability, sell them a great product at a great price and everyone keeps recommending me which I truly appreciate. I do about 2000 of these GMPP plans every year so I guess I must do something right.

Again THANKS EVERYONE.

Or, you can use it as a selling feature because it IS transferrable for a $50 fee. I'm in the process of assuming the remaining GMPP from the seller of the car I just bought on the 10th of this month. All it takes is the completion of a transfer form (availbable online, and your signature within 30 days of the car sale. Let the buyer pay the transfer fee.

I have Warranty Direct ..
Read this: http://www.carbuyingtips.com/warranty.htm
I bought Warranty Direct 4 years ago... 7 years 100,000 miles zero deductible bumper to bumper... for 1200 dollars... I paid 200 dollars the first month then 100 dollars a month for the next 10 months... with no interest..
Warranty Direct is one of the oldest extended warranty companies in the country... they were writing extended warranties years before GM and Ford ever got into the extended warranty business.. Their D&B rating is "A" Superior.. which is the highest you can get... To date : I have used them seven times.. Water pump, oil sending unit, Door control Module, and Headlight actuator control motor..[alternator, belt tensioner and idler pulley ](this was one claim ), new seat adjuster.., and a radiator recovery tank. They had paid over 3,000 dollars in claims so far , and always with a thank you and, we will be here for you if you need us again... And the Best Part is I do Not have to take it to the dealer...Although many dealers will take this warranty because it actually pays them 40 % more for labor than GM pays them... I don't have to deal with people that know less about a Corvette than I do.... No dealer 18 year old Lot jockeys lighting up my tires... No inept techs working on my car... no threats or hassles from a guy that was working at McDonald the year before.. MY repair guy has been in business 40 years.. can do anything GM can do... he doesn't have any kids working for him... I can watch... My repair shop told me that Warranty Direct is the best warranty company he has ever worked with... he even Now has his personal cars covered by them.. Never a penny out of my pocket... MY guy calls Warranty direct to open a claim... he repairs the car... calls me when it is done.. submits his repair bill Via a fax to Warranty Direct, and he gets paid right on the spot via corporate credit card,,, just as if I gave him my credit card,,,
I still have three years and 50,000 miles left on this warranty... it would be worth 6 to 800 dollars to anyone who would buy my car... if I decided to sell it.. Would I do it again...? in a heart beat !

Experience
Well over 1.5 million contracts sold.
Over $400 million in claims paid.
Over 800,000 claims paid.
Over 9,000 claims handled every month.

Stability
A Forbes Magazine Top 200 Company- three times.
Over $140 million in assets, mostly in insured claims reserve accounts.
Celebrating our 25th year in business and 10 years on the Internet.

Reliability
Over 18,000 dealers and repair facilities do business with Warranty Direct.
Over 2,200 car dealers, banks and credit unions sell our coverage.
ZERO Better Business Bureau complaints in the past 16 months.
That is over 144,000 claims without one single complaint
..
Licensed and approved to do business in all 50 states.

Coverage
It's a Wear and Tear Warranty not a breakdown only warranty
A breakdown warranty means the car has to be broken to be fixed
A Wear and Tear Warranty is much better, because something could be failing, and still be fixed.. e.g.. alternator bearing starting to go bad..
A Wear and Tear claim will fix this before you get stuck..
A Breakdown Warranty means you have to be stuck somewhere before they will fix it.
The industry's most comprehensive coverage.
Wear and tear, seal and gaskets, overheating- all covered!
No restrictive, vague or fuzzy contract language.

The two warranty companies that I would look into are Warranty Direct and GMPP. I personally have Warranty Direct on mine. Info and prices on GMPP can be obtained from Dennis at Fichtner Chevy like mentioned above.
