Default Airsystem bank Code P1416

Check engine light came on and the code for airsystem bank comes up on the screen when I checked it.

What do I need to replace?

I think that's the hose on the back of the intake manifold.

Seems to run fine. What happens if I wait a few weeks before replacing it?

THanks in advance

It puts air into the exhaust for emmissions. I took my whole AIR system off, it is a worthless system. Just have the code disabled and forget about it.

OK I know how to clear the codes but how do I disable a certain code?

Thanks in advance

Dealer or Tuner can disable it. If you have a program like EFILink I think you can do it yourself.

Jim,

I ran my car cross country with that code. Really the air system only operates for about the first few minutes once the car has been started. (From what I was told on here) I finally had it tuned out. Don't loose sleep over it.

Being in florida, i would reccomend just deleting the codes. However, if you plan to leave the state for an emissions state, or sell in an emissions state. You may need to fix your air system....That being the case, post the code that has been thrown, it may be a check valve, there's one behind your motor and the other is on the drivers side of your motor.

Caution.

Though not sure if true for your 1998, but had read that the engine computer might continue to 'test' the AIR injection system to try and resolve the error.

This could result in additional battery drain, but worse is it could burn-out the AIR pump, a unnecessary expense.

Pull the codes, to be sure what it is and at least consider pulling the fuse for the pump until it can be fixed, just in case.

BTW, if it is the driver side check-valve, it's the black thing sticking-up above and outboard of the valve cover in the shinny exhaust pipe and is a piece of cake to replace (and only about $30 for the part at any dealer/ACDelco parts place). Just requires a couple of big wrenches or adjustable wrenches.

Further, the AIR injection system helps heat-up the Catalytic Converters and possibly the O2 sensors, which seem to help the LS1 move into 'closed loop' more quickly and helps with both fuel economy as well as performance.

Additionally, if the check-valve is stuck open, it can adversly effect vacume hoses and the other side of the engine, so it's not really worth just ignoring it.

BTW, if it turns out to be the 'passenger side' check-valve, that one's a pain, it's behind the intake under the cowl-vent, but I have read still doable without intake removal.

P.S. experience based on 2000 TransAm 6-speed with LS1 engine.

Default sure about the code value?

Odd, that code is not in my 2000 book, nor in one of the frequently recommended code list sites (http://97vette.com/howto/codes/index.html).

Are you sure about the value?

Oops... just noticed the original subject of the post, you meant P1416, "secondary Air Injection (AIR) System Bank 2...

In otherwords, the one behind the intake manifold...

And the 2000 manual does say remove intake to get at it, but I'm sure I read someone doing it without removal -- and unfortunately, the Corvette isn't made by Pontiac, cause the passenger side check valve on our 2000 TransAm was right above the exhaust manifold and a piece-of-cake.

However, all the other things I said above may still apply, so be careful.

One other thought -- if you do the 'bank 2' check-valve, also do the bank 1 (driver side) as they were both bad on our 2000 TransAm.

i had that code with my car....... it's usually the sensor behind the intake........ but it could be a loose air hose.....mine was.... check all the hoses around the air pump ( drivers side way up front) i had a dicconnected air hose near the air filter on the drivers side
