Default Water Wetter Write up...

This is not a product endorsement, just wondering if anyone else has tried this product...

I talked to a friend who crews on a Nextel Cup car several weeks ago and he was telling me that they only use water in the cooling systems on their cars. He also said that they use a product called Water Wetter and that it reduces their coolent temps by 10 to 15 percent.

I tried it on my Audi a week ago and it dropped the coolent temps by 15 degrees!

So I tried it on my Vette today because it has seemed to run on the hot side since I brought it home (215-240 degrees)

I put it in today and drove it about 50 miles, easy and hard, traffic and HWY. It never got over 205 degrees

The outside temp was about 62 degrees.

Anyone else tried this product and had the same results???

Peace
Willfulone

No, but I going to get some. How does it work? Is it mixed with water or is it full strength out of the bottle?

Here is what I found on line before I tried it...

http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/redtech3.htm

I just took a little coolent out of the overflow tank and dumped it in there...

When I first started driving it it was the same temp as always, then all of a sudden the temps started dropping on it leveled off at 199

I got it a Auto Zone for $6.99, but there are several auto stores that carry it like Advanced and Pep Boys...

Good luck, I like to here how it works for others...

Peace

I used 1 bottle when I drained and flushed my cooling system a few weeks back. I refilled w/ 50/50 dexcool/distilled water and then 1 bottle of water wetter. I plan on doing this every 2 years.

I use 1 bottle of RedLine water wetter in my '88 Vert. It keeps the engine about 20 degress cooler than a glycol mix without the water wetter.

I have been using it in all my 5.7L GTA Firebirds, IROC's, and Corvettes for years. The Redline Waterwetter really works!

What's the advantage? And does it take longer for the heater to kick in?

Is anyone concerned that the reduced surface tension (or other properties of WW) will increase the tendency for leaks? I've only used Water Wetter once, on an LT1 Camaro, and the water pump started leaking like crazy about 10,000 miles later (at only about 35,000 miles on the motor). Ever since then I've been leery of using it again. Coincidence?

I used to sell this stuff when I worked for pepboys and Napa... but would never have given this info: If the car runs fine, don't fix what isn't broken. Save your money. If your car is running at normal temps then don't worry. I would use it if you do a lot of hard driving or live in a rather hot area, though. My C5 is getting some at the 30,000 mile coolant replacement just in time for summer. During the winter it's 50/50 dexcool and water... I kinda like the car to heat up a bit. It makes the inside of the car warm up a bit faster

It is basically water pump lubricant that changes the surface tension of the coolant mix. Might not help, probably won't hurt. I used it and saw no real difference.

Wouldn't this promote more corrosion?? Since the racers just dump it after the race, not a concern there.

Just curious..

distilled water + water wetter (or engine ice...or any of a variety of other brand names of the same stuff)

great stuff...works significantly better than regular old antifreeze.

especially for those of us who live in areas that never get weather requring us to run antifreeze.

run it in all my bikes (just distilled water and water wetter)....far better results than from even 70/30 mix of water/anti.

as for leaks....if you have a leak its going to leak regardless of you having antifreeze or water wetter in it.

Darn! I used it in my blown Mustang but for some reason never thought of putting it in my Vette. Getting some in the morning. Thanks Willfulone!
