This is not a product endorsement, just wondering if anyone else has tried this product...
I talked to a friend who crews on a Nextel Cup car several weeks ago and he was telling me that they only use water in the cooling systems on their cars. He also said that they use a product called Water Wetter and that it reduces their coolent temps by 10 to 15 percent.
I tried it on my Audi a week ago and it dropped the coolent temps by 15 degrees!
So I tried it on my Vette today because it has seemed to run on the hot side since I brought it home (215-240 degrees)
I put it in today and drove it about 50 miles, easy and hard, traffic and HWY. It never got over 205 degrees
The outside temp was about 62 degrees.
Anyone else tried this product and had the same results???
I used 1 bottle when I drained and flushed my cooling system a few weeks back. I refilled w/ 50/50 dexcool/distilled water and then 1 bottle of water wetter. I plan on doing this every 2 years.
Is anyone concerned that the reduced surface tension (or other properties of WW) will increase the tendency for leaks? I've only used Water Wetter once, on an LT1 Camaro, and the water pump started leaking like crazy about 10,000 miles later (at only about 35,000 miles on the motor). Ever since then I've been leery of using it again. Coincidence?
I used to sell this stuff when I worked for pepboys and Napa... but would never have given this info: If the car runs fine, don't fix what isn't broken. Save your money. If your car is running at normal temps then don't worry. I would use it if you do a lot of hard driving or live in a rather hot area, though. My C5 is getting some at the 30,000 mile coolant replacement just in time for summer. During the winter it's 50/50 dexcool and water... I kinda like the car to heat up a bit. It makes the inside of the car warm up a bit faster
It is basically water pump lubricant that changes the surface tension of the coolant mix. Might not help, probably won't hurt. I used it and saw no real difference.
