The dreaded column lock almost reared it's ugly head. Drove to work today. No problem. Leaving work, though, I notice the "Service Column Lock System" warning on the DIC. I have had both the dealer recall done and the clb installed several months ago. As I tried to leave work the engine died on me. I was confused because even though I had the CL warning, the steering column did not lock. Grabbed the owner's manual. Figured out that I had caused my own problem: I had inserted the key once, then again within just a few seconds. That action triggered the anti-theft features. A battery disconnect and 2 hours later, the system reset itself and all's well. Whew! Had visions of huge repair bills and time away from my baby. But I guess "all's well that ends well".

I like happy endings! Glad things worked out for you.
Did you re-insert your key because the key can only go in one way to start the car, and it had been inserted the wrong way the first time? That often happens to me; I hope this wouldn't cause trigger the CL warning or the anti-theft feature.

If I'm not mistaken, it doesn't make any difference as to which way the key is inserted. I've never paid any attention to which way the key was oriented, and I've never had any problem with having it in "upside-down". But now you've got me to wondering......I'll experiment with this at lunch time, and give a full report on my findings.

I remember my wife emailing me at sea telling me that the COLUMN LOCK ordeal came up and she did as I directed, leave the car alone and call thunderracing for the bypass. She did great and things worked out pretty good for me.
Thanks! I wasn't aware of that feature either. I know the memory seat has a mind of its own, but sometimes the seat returns to Memory 1 when I insert the key and sometimes it doesn't. In that case I push the Memory 1 button and everything's cool. Discovering these little bonuses on my Corvette is like finding the Easter Eggs on my Mac software.
You mean you actually drive your Vette and don't just wash it, wax it, park it and admire it and wash it , wax it and park it and admire it....
87K miles here... and I never new about the anti theft feature you describe... the double key entry sounds like it is potentially problematic...
You learn something new each day here on the Forum....
Actually, I do just that until pretty weekends on the Gulf Coast. Be careful not to be distracted when inserting the key (don't double-insert within a few seconds). Thanks, guys, for the support. I had visions of paying out lots of money needlessly.

Doesn't sound right. If your key is a double cut, you should be able to insert it either way and it will start the car. The only time I've heard of it not doing so is if the key is damaged on one side or if it is a replacement key that wasn't cut properly on both sides. I am assuming your ignition on '99 is same as '98.

You are giving out misinformation as stated above.
