I am having my 02 Z tuned tomorrow, stock with the exception of a Halltech Stinger SSM intake. The tuner recoomended that I change plugs to TR55's. The car is being towed there because I can't miss work, so it's gonna cost me an extra $100 dollars for the plugs and labor. The car has 23K miles, should I have them install the new plugs, or should I save money and keep the stockers in there? If the TR55's will really benefit me, I'll spend the extra money. What do you think?
BTW...what gap does LGM recommend? I talked with them last week about a set of Pros, x-over & cats...while I remembered to ask about gaskets, I forgot to ask them about new plugs.
Thanks.

Hi Jay -
I talked with Antony today - but forgot to ask about the plug gap...
I pm'd him and when he responds, I will post it here - but I though it was .045....
Installed OEM Delco XI plugs.. smooth as silk from idle to redline. I got the GMPP Red wires (1mm bigger then stock). Use plug thread anti-sieze and Plug wire boot grease for easy future changes. Dont remove the Metal head shields from the wires, they are there for a reason.
** General rule for plugs in my opinion, If its stock (or close to... Intake, exhaust) run stock plugs, you sholdnt see a difference in performance/economy going from XI to Copper, just shorter miles between changes. Turbo, S/C, NOS, Headers/Cam/Heads then change them to colder plugs at different gaps. AND avoid any Gimicky designs... "Rapid Fire", "Split Fire", "+4" and anything BOSH.
Delco, NGK, Denso are all good plug brands.. personally use Delco or NGK depending on application.
I'm running TR55's in my 03 Z06 now. I'm going to replace them, they've been in a long time now. I've got LG headers, Honker intake, tune, lower fan temps, ECS tune. Should I use the 55's again or go to TR6's? When I bought the headers LG sent me the TR55's along with them.
My S10 pickup with a 4.3 V6 also uses the TR55's. I had the iridium versions which were in for years. I recently have been having performance issues with the truck. I just put in a new set of copper 55's and it feels like a new engine. Instant starting, smoother idle and it feels like I gained 30 hp.
The plugs from the factory are the best choice. The engine is properly tuned, and the air fuel mixture is set using the factory plugs. I replaced my 2004 Z06 LS6 engine plugs with factory Iridium plugs. The engine still runs perfectly with 131,000 miles on it. Best Regards
Well here is sone things to consider. Factory plugs are best but numbers and mfg’s of the plugs change. Note AC Delco is the best but NGK is the mfg of AC Delco.
Also plugs can last long. But too often bad sensors or even a baked wire can lead to conditions to change them sooner.
As they say this is recommended for miles but your results can vary. LS wires do become fragile with the heat and
