Default Question - First Vette Purchase

I have been looking at a 2004 MY Z06 with 10.9K miles on the odometer. I have a standing offer at $36.5K, and I believe $35.5 - 36K is possible with a bit more negotiating. My question is... is this a decent price? If so, is there anything I should look for aside from the obvious (tire ware, carfax, alignment)?

I was previously planning on picking up a Shelby GT500 Mustang when they come out in June, but this car (Z06) has me blown away with the way it accelerates, stops, AND turns. Any and all feedback is welcome.

Great board, by the way!

That does not sound to bad . I looked at Edmunds and it seemed inline with private party ... It depends how much time you have to spend looking around.... When I bought mine there always seemed to be a better deal around the corner, so you just have to get a feel for where you want to be and buy it when you see . One rule I tried to follow was buy as close to the "trade in value" as possible... :-)

[B]Who knows

the skinny on radar/laser detector? What is good, bad, and ugly. Are they worth the investments. What is your favorite brand.

Any opinions on garage floor finishing paint or tile?

I just got my '04 silver Z 3 weeks ago for $39. 1 owner with 5,000 miles. I probably paid a little too much for it, but it's super!!! One run through the gears and I forgot about the price!!

Thanks for all the feedback, I really appreciate it.

I have one other consiteration as well... I have a 17 month old son who would have to ride in the vehicle on occasion. This would not be every day, but possible once a week. I noticed the 04 was equiped with the LATCH system for a carseat... Does anyone use a carseat in their vette? I can tell you, this is the only reason I'm learly of the car (and why I didn't pick it up yesterday).

Further, I can not find any crash test information for the C5. Does anyone know where I can find this? I'd like to compare this informaiton against the 05+ mustang.

Finally, my driveway is fairly steep... obviously the vette is fairly low to the ground... I'm not sure it will make it up. Any ideas/experiences??

$35,500 would be a great price for an '04 MY that is flawless. A few bucks here or there should not break the deal. Just try to work it out with the seller and come to an agreement on a price that both of you are happy with. Buy him a couple rounds after the deal is done. There is absolutely no other car in the world that brings folks together as much as the corvette. Most importantly, post some pictures back here after you put a couple coats of Zaino on that MY. Good luck and keep us posted.

That is a good price for an 04 with those miles, the passenger side airbag can be shut off and I believe that using a car seat is not a problem as I remember another thread where this was discussed somewhere. As far as the steep drive, go at it on a bit of an angle and you should be fine, my new house has a pretty steep drive and I havent had any problems. I dont know where you would locate crash test info, maybe from Edmunds or similar source, C5's seem to hold thier own when it comes to accidents and keeping the passenger compartment intact. Good luck on finding the info you need, Im sure you will be extremely pleased with the car should you happen to purchase it.

Right go for it. I did it today, bought one on Ebay. only had 118 miles on it. drove it home through a snow storm. been without a vette for two years. been driving an XLR, a great car and I guess I'll keep it. the one I picked up today is Z06 Z16 2004 commemorative. just like new. will use it for my daily driver.
