WTF is it with Reverse?
Reverse has always been a PITA in my C5.....tough to get in sometimes (doesn't always engage....grinds and then you have to re-enage it) and then it pops out sometimes as well. I always chalked it up to my high miles.....and didn't think it was worth it to even consider looking into fixing it.
But now I've got a GTO as well.....pretty much the same tranny....and this car only has 15K miles. And it DOES THE SAME FREAKIN' THING!!! Not to the extent of the vette.....much less frequent....but it happens every now and then regardless.
I assume this is common. Anyone know of a TSB? What the actual problem is? A fix?
A strong possibility would be bent shifter forks.. But, before going there here's what FIXED DIFFICULTY GETTING INTO REVERSE on my C5. Remove the center console and shifter boot, then simply re-center the shifter carrier assembly with the alignment holes (C4C5specialist on Corvettemechanic.com could describe this better). This should take you about 1/2 an hour to do and made all the difference in the world getting into reverse on my car. You might also consider draining and filling the transmission with some new ATF, that smooths things out too.
