Default Going back in time....

So, I have to ask... how many of us out there have a c5 and a c4? Would you go back to a c4 from a c5? The reason I am asking is that I found a steal on a 1996 c4. Silver/Black... ya you know the one. It has only 22K on it. All original... The guy used it as a show car, but is looking to sell it so that he has a hefty down payment on a 06 Z06. The car is flawless... I can only wish my c5 was in this good of a condition. And I take great care of my C5. The wife is making me ultimatum... get the C4, and sell my C5. I told her I would sell my XLR long before I sell the C5. The car isn't going anywhere soon... I am the only person he has offered it to... and I have an exclusive on it. What do you guys think? Ditch the XRL and get the c4 and keep the c5? Or not???? I want to make a move soon.. just to make sure I get the car and not loose it.

The C4 I had was a "show car" too when I bought it, (took second place at Carlisle, amongst other things). It was also a '96...low mileage...immaculate condition.

Do I miss it? Damned right I do.

Do I miss it enough to give up my C5 for it? Not on your life!

If I could, and had any say about it, I'd have 'em BOTH in the garage.

I'd say, if you can afford it and your boss, aka wifey, doesn't object, definitely, go for it.

Back in 2000 I purchased my first Corvette, a 1994 MN6 convertible with the optional hard top. The car was my DD, and I absolutely loved the car! Unfortunately living in central Illinois, I quickly realized when the first winter set in that I had to replace it with something more snow worthy. It took me 5 years, but in July of last year, I finally got back into a Vette. My current beauty is a 2001 MN6 convertible, and it only comes out on sunny days.

Although I am completely satisfied with my C5, I still sometimes think about my C4. I would really love the opportunity to drive my C4 again, just for comparisons sake, but I have no idea where it ended up after I traded it in. I hope it has found a happy home.

So for me, I would not go back and purchase a C4, but I would love to have one just for a day! It would bring back some great memories of my first (Vette that is )

Best of luck in making your decision!

You ever notice how when you think of an old girlfriend you only remember the good times? I think this C4 thing is like that. Fine cars, no doubt, but don't forget all the improvements, upgrades, and livability that came with the C5.

Heck, sometimes i miss my old '75. but would I want the upkeep and compromises of living with that car again? No. I'd still drive the C5 everywhere and the C3 would sit and it's constant upkeep would drain away my C5 mod money.

I would not want another car with an LT1, C4, F-Body, etc. I put over 100k on an F-body with one and it leaked oil about 90k of that. Garage floor was NEVER clean.

I might consider a C4 with a SBC set up as a track car, but that's about it.
If I had to give up the C5, I'd find a late model F-Body w/an LS1. JMO.

Got em both! When I feal like riding in a "sports car" I jump in the rough riding old 93 with it's tight cockpit. When I feel like a casual drive I jump in the roomy 01. I like them both for their different qualities and personalities!

The C4 was a nice car. But, I sure prefer the technology and improved exterior design of the C5. Good luck to you.

I went from a '78 to a '71 to a '73 to a '98
then to a '00.
Nothing beats the feel and comfort of a C5.
Then again, if I could afford more than one,
I'd have them all again!

I have both. I just picked up the C5 last week. I plan on selling the HONDA!!!!

They are very different cars. The C4 has a vastly superior manual transmission... I wasn't expecting that. Otherwise, the C5 beats it at everything else. My wife is the primary driver of the C4. I'm just playing catch up.

My 81 was a money pit. Fun to drive but with today's tech advances, the C5 is a runaway favotite.[IMG][/IMG]
I don't miss it enough to want it back to replace the 97.

Default C4 vs. C5

I have one of each. There are things that I like about both, but the C-5 A-4 is my choice for extended trips. My wife likes the sport seat in the C-4 better than that in the C-5. I like the power of the C-5, but for a thrilling spirited ride, I prefer the C-4 with it's 4+3 that you can just thrash around the curves. Both are nice.

We have both a C4 ('88Vert) and a C5 ('01 Vert)
I drive the C4, we ride in the C5.
The C4 has more of a race car feel , while the C5 has a more refined sedan like ride. My wife likes the toys in the C5 but prefers the exhileration of the C4.

If you can keep the C5 and get the C4, good move. I liked the C4's I had, but wouldn't give up the C5 for one unless it was a GS.

I am lucky enough to have two 'vettes, an 85 4+3 and an 01 6spd, both coupes, Z51.

The 01 gets the most use, especially on longer trips.

The 85 is a treat to drive. It's low, it's rough, it has cats, otherwise straight exhaust, the seats hold you nice and snug. You climb into this car. You wear it. You have to drive it. It doesn't help you out if you go into a corner too hard ... <G> I really enjoy driving it.

I'd never give up my 01 though!

My sentiments exactly... except I sold the C4 ('93) that was in top shape because I had nowhere to keep it out of the elements. Now I regret making that sale since I have a 3-car garage nearing completion.
