Default Oil change question

I am taking my car to a garage that has a lift to change my oil. With the oil pan being flat, can you change it on a lift or do you have to have it tilted to get the oil out? I am going to use the Mobile one, is there any certain filter I need to get? Also, Im guessing 5W-30 is the right type of oil? Its a 2000 C5. Thanks

I think that this has been addressed before somewhere. I have mine changed and the guy that does it works only on Vettes. He said tilting the car does little to get the last of the dribbles out. Just leave the plug out longer and let it drip.

5w-30 is correct and Mobil 1 is great oil. Any filter will do, but why go cheap. Get a OEM AC/Delco, K&N or PureOne and you will be fine. And yes, it can be level, just let it drip for a good 30 minutes.

I measured the extra amount that comes out when you lift the rear, it is only 4 ounces, I would not worry about it at a commercial oil changer's (I do it when I change the oil myself).

Use 5W-30 Synthetic oil meeting the applicable specification, Mobil 1 is okay (not the extended formula though). The standard DELCO PF46 filter is okay (I use the DELCO UPF44, a premium filter).

I use what I think is the best products...on my '97 with 57,800 miles on it and have no issues with oil usage.
I change my oil and filter at home and as one post said the small amount that is left in the oil pan isn't a big deal, sometime I raise the rear higher to drain the small amount out but not always.. I recently changed to Royal Purple 10W30 (I live in CA. warmer year round climate)and I use the k&N HP 1007 oil filter. these products may cost more but to me it is worth it. Royal Purple oil has a change intervals of 12,000 miles with the recommendation of changing the oil filter between 3 and 4K miles and topping off the oil between the 12K changes. This my $.02 worth.

No tilt needed but you might want to consider 10w 30 since you're in a warmer climate.

I use the PF-46 filter and 5W-30 Mobil 1. Works for me.

It does make a difference, and according to this guys testing, Mobil 1 isn't the best. Make your own call.

Hey Wing Nut, take a high pressure water hose and squirt water into the oil filler. That will get all the old oil out of the engine...
