Default Clutch Spring broken

Anyone ever had their clutch spring actually break? Apparently it happened to me yesterday. Got underneath to check it out today and the spring is definitely in two pieces. I've read that it is still ok to drive, so what is the purpose of this spring. Anyone know how much a new one costs?

Had it happen on our Z06 - took it to the dealer, & they removed it & ordered the new part. I couldn't tell the difference with the spring removed, so I never did go back to get the new one installed.

I am definitely no expert, so maybe someone else who is can confirm or correct me. I think the purpose of the spring is to aid you when you are holding the clutch down to the floor, like when sitting at a red light. It just gives your leg a little break. I don't think it will harm anything if the spring is broken, you just may notice it a little more while waiting for the light to change.

Have seen this posted before and I let my extended warranty, replace it
and found that the pedal will be lazy and not go up completely
to the top, with the proper pressure without it. YOU FOR SURE want
that spring replaced.Carefully sit and feel your clutch pedal for a few minutes Now that it's off. Then Do it when it's replaced that should convice anyone. There's doubters on here and they are WRONG. Could cause wear with-out it. A clutch can be ruined
by Just laying a foot slightly on the pedal when driving over time.
The clutch sticking down on SOME c-5's Is another problem. and has nothing to do with that spring. That spring really needs to be there. Going to be some posting to say to forget that
frignn spring. Get it replaced

Anyone know how much they charge for them at the dealership? I'm guessing you can't pick one up at an Autozone...
