Default Need Help!!!!

Ok I do own a corvette 04 vert blk on blk but my question is gm related. I cant seem to get my key out of the ignition. It wont turn all the way bak to the release postion in my Envoy. Again, I know this is a corvette forum but I thought one of the fine members of the forum might know how to make the key release. This has got to be some sort of theft deterent system. Only problem is the position its stuck in is causing my radio to run which obviously drains my battery. PLEASE HELP!

You weren't really clear if its only a matter of the key not turning all the way to the off/release position. If you can turn it to start the car, start it, move the shift lever between the gears and move the steering wheel. If you cannot start the car, step on the brake and move the shift lever around best you can. At the same time, move the steering wheel left to right. Sounds like one of the safety interlocks is binding. Close to the dreaded C5 column lock problem. If its parked on a hill, might try to rock the truck back and forth, then try again.

good luck

The key is simply stuck in the ignition. I can start the car and move it but when i turn it off the key turns but the key will not release. It wont clearly turn off or to the point where my radio still runs.

there is a lock mechanism in the shifter to lock cylinder. if it is not in park all the way it wont come out. if this is all the way in park and you have pushed IN on the key while turning and it wont come out something in the linkage orelectrical swith mechanism is wrong.

I just went out to the 03 Envoy I have. The only reason why I could see this happening is if you have not turned the key back all the way. my key will go in and come back to off then come out easily. try to push the key towards the steering column and then twist it back around to the off position. Hopefully this helps.

Good advice already.

You should not have to worry about battery. In my Chevy's, the computer cuts off power after a set period of time.

Good luck figgurin' this out.

This is a somewhat common problem with the Envoys. It's most often caused by a dead battery (since you can start your's that's not the problem), or a bad tranny shift lock actuator. Bump the shift lever hard a few times and see if the key won't release.

Not sure about newer cars, but you may have turned the engine off with the front wheels turned and the steering wheel locked with pressure on it. You could try wiggling the steering wheel as you turn the ignition off and try to remove the key.

Hi Lenny -

I sometimes have trouble with my truck - the key does not want to release - I have to turn the wheel to the left stop and then put a little pressure on it to try to "overtravel" it a bit - this usually gets it out of what ever the bind is.

On our lumina, somtimes the floor-mounted shifter is not all the way in P and it will keep from releasing the key.

Good luck -

best regards -

Until you get it fixed, turn the radio to off before you shut the car down.
