Anyone have any luck mounting the antenna above the tail light ? Will the reception be blocked? Looked on search for sirius install but looks like all but one was deleted.
I mounted mine on the back glass up top near the roof...I used clear silicone so I can remove it later if need be..reception is great. Helpful hint....mount antenna with velcro first and drive a few days to make sure it works ok everywhere..
Thanks it looks like all of you have had success with your locations. I will try the install today. Doesn't seem too complicated. Has anyone installed the FM modulator with the 12 disc changer. Someone mentioned that you have to get adapters for the antenna hook up to the factory GM Bose system. Does the disc changer have to be disconected or will I still be able to use?
I have a Sirius Starmate with the antenna mounted behind the tail light in the rear bumper support, as shown in the picture abover. I also have the factory changer. I bought the FM modulator and adapter cables at Circuit City for around $50. Here is a brief rundown of the installation.
FM Modulator: The modulator is a Sirius accessory. It basically hard wires the Starmate to your head unit rather than using FM modulation. You will need to purchase 2 adapters as well since GM uses a smaller diameter coax into the radio, assuming that you still have the factory head unit. The modulator has a cable that plugs into the Starmate, as well as an coax in and coax out. You need to plug your antenna coax into one of the adapters then into the modulator, then plug the second adapter into the out plug and into the antenna plug on the back of your head unit. I just let the modulator lay behind the A/C controller.
Power: If you access the fuse block in the passenger footwell, there is a pigtail off of the wiring harness that has 3 wires that are taped off with electrical tape. One is neutral, one is always powered and the third is switched with the ignition. You will need a meter to determine which wire is which. You can use either, but I used the switched because it kills power to the Starmate when I shut off the ignition.
I think the antenna was already explained earlier. Let me know if you need any more info.
