Help! While driving yesterday I noticed that the digital display on the HVAC unit is getting really dim. It used to only be dim on start up then it would brighten up. I know that the head units go out and it's pretty common. Is there anyway to fix this one or do I have to get a new one?
The is a guy on eBay that repairs the whole unit for $40 or so. I'm sorry I can't find the link, but some searching might dig it up. First person I've heard of that does the repairs, and lots better than dropping two bills for a new unit...
If it is just a case of re-soldering I would love to know how / what to fix. I'm not an electrical genius. But I know How to solder. I hate to tear into it not knowing and break somthing else.
Well it looks like it's a trade secret!! If it ever happens to mine I'll be taking it apart and heating up all the solder connections and hoping for the best. It must be a power connection somewhere in the unit. It's worth a try. But it sure would be nice to know where to look. But I'll be trying anything before I give my money away because of shoddy soldering. My .02

Yeah....I can't blame digital guy for keeping the info classified- he's cornered the market. If everybody could do it, he'd have to figure out how to fix something else that we're all plagued with.
But I did read somewhere else that it has to do with cold solder joints in the power supply section of the HVAC unit. If I get bold enough, I may start to explore it on my own. As Jeff Spicoli said in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, "My old man's a TV repairman....he's got an awesome set of tools. I can fix it."
Guys.... put it in perspective... you can pay the stealership $475 for the part ( A supporting vendor wanted $325) and a flat rate of 5 hrs.... with tax lets call it $1000 +/- for the fix with a one year guarantee or you can buy a used one on eBay for $150 and find out the used part doesn't work ( don't ask... but I know) or pay mandigital $42 ... he covers the shipping back to you out of that and gives you a 5 year guarantee.
Im sure a lot of forum members are making more than that on used parts that "came off my Vette with only 2,000 miles" with only a buyer beware disclaimer.
