Default Rotor advice

When we got our 2000 last February, I replaced the rusty stock rotors with the $25 NAPA specials. I painted the rotor hats and calipers. They have worked just fine and look reasonably cool, but I kind of have the bug for something with a little more bling. I'm thinking about goung to something dimpled and slotted. Rrotor pros are nice because you can order them with the hats already powder coated. Or maybe Sportbrakes and just leave the hats with the zinc plating. Would it be foolish to mess around with something that's working good ?
I have heard some good things about these vendors on the forum, is there any thing I need to know for making this decision ?

I went with Rotorpros. I have the black powder coated hats. Zinc coated dimpled/slotted. If you get these are any of the rotors make sure to spray the vanes with hi-temp clear and take a Q-tip with dipped in the hi-temp clear and do the dimples and slots before putting them on. BTW you did an excellent job on those you have on now
Here is a few pics of mine.

I'm putting on Eradispeeds from Xtreem Motorsports. They are a forum vender. I was very happy with the service and advice I got from them. I'll show some pics when I get a chance.

Hey RstyNutz,
You actually have your rotors installed on the wrong side. The high point of the slots should come into the caliper first.

Default Why clearcoat ?

Rsty Nutz,
Aren't the rotors from rotor pros zinc plated BERORE the painted hats ?
Then why the clear coat ?

Also, (Rsty and Jman1) how have they worked for you ? any problems ?

BTW, I did the same thing as GM mislabeled their rotors and I didn't know any better. Actually saw an American Muscle show on TV that explained why to mount them like that. It is for better heat dissipation. I don't think there is any problem with the way you have them mounted, it just isn't as effective. They look nice too!!1

I went with Sportbrakes off Ebay. I think they were $259 shipped. I think they look pretty sweet and looks are the only reason I took off the old solid Napa rotors. Good luck with your choice.

The aftermarket rotors sure make the wheel area look better.

The direction of the slots has nothing what so ever to do with how the rotors are mounted. It is all in the design of the cooling vanes inside the rotor. So you ACTUALLY do not know what you are talking about.

Yes they are completely zinc treated, BUT for extra insurance I clear coated the vanes and the dimples/slots and have had no problems with rust in those areas. The firepath will rust up after washing BUT is removed when brakes are applied. These seem to be a very good brand of rotors and you have seen the prices posted.

Thank you for your observation but you are wrong.

I was informed by a brake specialist that when looking down at the vanes the tops of the vanes should face to the rear of the car. This way as the car moves forward the vanes draw in the air forcing the cooling and debris to the center of the hub and out under the car.

2-piece Eradispeeds. Lighter weight and you don't have to replace the whole thing when it wears. Cheaper in the long run.

Plus they look the best IMO.

I just received a set of drilled-only rotors from Rotorpros. An email from Rich C at Rotorpros showed to install the rotors exactly the same as Nutz did his, which would have the vanes and rows of drilled holes angling towards the back of the car. This is opposite just about all photos posted on this board.

E-T, you have any engineering insight on vane direction before I bolt these suckers on as per the directions and get taken to task?

Evil -Twin is about the only one who knows rotors. He is correct in what he is stating, I think your confusing the hole pattern and or slots. I believe we are talking about the vanes inside or between plates. The purpose is to draw air in to provide better cooling and heat transfer.

Simple solution: I just went home and looked at the stock rotors. Sure enough, the vanes (yes, I know the difference between wheel stud holes and vanes) slant backwards toward the rear of the car. Since Rotorpros drills between the vanes, their line of holes naturally points backwards just as Nutz has his mounted--and just as I will mount mine.

Other brands drilled differently may have a forward swooping pattern but not the Rotorpros.
